almost shot today

My wife and I were having lunch together today. We were at Subway. The Subway is next to the Super Wash and one resturaunt away from McDonalds and across the street from Sonic, KFC and donut shop. Apparently ex boyfriend of a women shot her in the drive-thru (she works at the bodyshop where we just hasd the 07 paintwork done) and then headed towards the SuperWash. The cop in the Subway encountered him and shot him dead. Stray bullets flew across street and hit the owner of donut shop in the neck. he was life flighted out. Women has bullet in lung, still in surgery. My son works at the Advance Auto next to Subway and Super Wash. Says news crews are still there and roads still blocked off.

Saw that on the news and immediately thought of you guys. That's some crazy shit. Glad you're OK!
 
yeah, you don't expect that in a small town! The news film crews are filming from the parking lot of Advance Auto. so my son is having a slow night.
My wife is good friends with one of the cops. I remember saying to them just before all this "be safe" and they were the ones who encountered him. She knows him from the high school football games. We work concession stand (i'm in back grilling) but the cops come to the games and often hang out by the concession stand because we have a good view and it's near the gate if they have to leave quick. Anyway, we have been doing the games to raise money for the band for 5 years so she got know him really well. She calls him "Betty White" and was giving him a hard time at lunch. He was one of the cop who shot the suspect
 
thanks, we didn't really know what was going down at first but it is scary that several stray bullets hit nearby and one hit donut shop owner

Glad all is well......always hard on the nerves though.

thanks. closest I have been to such a situation. just really glad we didn't get struck by a stray bullet. none actually came close to us but at the time you just don't know
 
Wow Craig! While your description sounds like it was an anxious time, looking at the area on Google Maps REALLY brings it home just how close y'all were to everything!! Glad you are okay!!

cool view. Yeah, the shooting occurred in front of the Super Wash so we were shielded by the building and probably were not at risk. But you just don't know in the heat of the moment. We parked along the edge near the Super Wash where there appears to be a car in that shot (I always park on the end and leave extra space on the other side so no one dings me) and the two cop cars were next to us. They ran out of Subway down the road between the car wash and Advance Auto. Confronted the guy running towards them along Main Street. He was shot dead in or near the ditch in front of the car wash
 
the guy who owns the body shop (Clay) where the girl worked as a secretary is a friend of mine. He (Clay) says he spoke to the girl at the hospital. The shooter shot at her twice, first hitting her in the chest/lung. Bullet is still lodged in there. They have not yet removed it. She told Clay that he pulled the trigger a second time but gun jammed. That's when she tried to get away and crashed her car across the street of McDonalds. The shooter then tried to chase her on foot. However, someone called 911 during this and the cops in the Subway were so close that he didn't have time to shoot her again. My son said one of the drivers for Advance Auto was standing by his delivery truck in the Advance parking lot and saw the cops shoot him. The Advance Auto driver claims the suspect did NOT appear to point his gun at cops but they opened fire anyway. But I suspect a guy running down the street with a gun and has already shot someone whether he is pointing it at anyone or just running, is going to get shot at to prevent him form shooting anyone else. Plus it's not clear if he was trying to get the girl still although he would have ran past the car and away from where she crashed. His car was in McDonalds parking lot so no idea what he was doing/going.
This is all I got so far and it is second hand info. This probably means the donut guy was shot by a cop's bullet though as they would have been aiming that direction and the suspect would most likely have been aiming toward the car wash or not at all...
 
thanks, yeah we were probably never in harms way in actuality but just so wild. We lived in Chicago until 2004 and never been this close to a shoot out!
 
If getting rained on while bird hunting counts, I've been shot multiple times ;)

We had a mass shooting at our local gun range this past Sat..... 5 persons hit and taken to the hospital and one round fired. Old man was loading a antique rabbit ear shotgun and when he closed the upper the gun went off...hitting the concrete and peppering a dad and 4 kids with shot. Nothing major and the last was released from hospital yesterday. Pretty wild scene.
