Ron Morris Performance adjustable motor mounts

First off, the pieces that make up this set are VERY well engineered and manufactured. They are a little pricey at $250/set + shipping.
I bought a used set from ebay for half price and was excited to have the ability to move my 351W around to fit in my '65 engine bay. After a couple of attempts to seat the motor properly and not having the success I thought I should have, I looked on the RMP website and lo and behold there are TWO different frame plates that can be used with the adjustable motor mount. I had unknowingly gotten the frame plates that lower the engine 1/2" from stock height. That would be ok if I was installing a 289/302-based stroker but used with the 351W and you are going to have the hedders clashing with the shock towers (at least on the '65-66 model). I called and actually spoke with Ron Morris and he said with my engine/chassis combo that I should use the normal height frame plates and it should fit. He even explained which holes the frame plates should be mounted in.

Had I known about these mounts way back when (if they were even around), I would've bought these over the TCP mounts. I have no complaints about the TCP mounts except you can't move as much side to side.

I have them on my 65, only complaint I have is the finish. They come zinc plated and the finish is corroded on mine after a few years. The car has not left the garage.

I bought mine from Phlegm on here. He has them laser cut from Buenings reverse engineered setup. Very nice pieces.

Update: Yesterday, I contacted RMP about the wrong part being shipped. Ron replied asking for a pic of the parts to verify. Today, I received a tracking email for a UPS shipment of the correct part.

There are lots of such set-ups available. Some are less expensive. I honestly don't know who was first to design them but they deserve first consideration, in my opinion. If anyone KNOWS, please post it up. Not a big fan of "stealing" someone's work/efforts

Glad you have got your situation figured out, Mark.

It all worked out last weekend when I fabbed some 1/4" thick spacer plates to lift the motor. Went to Tractor Supply for some longer grade 8 bolts. I really feels good to 'hot rod' your Mustang the right way. Im not sure what Im going to do with the correct plates when they arrive. Hold'em until I pull the motor the next time I guess.

I'm different. I like to build as much as I can or re-engineer as much as I can. Junkyard diving and parts store bins baby. Not big on having one off mail order stuff on my car. I want to be able to go to most auto parts and be able to get what I need to get back going.

I can appreciate that. There is not much of anything on my car that I haven't modified or built from scratch. I just get a bit peeved when I see something in the form of a new product that someone obviously put a lot of effort into to design and create only to have a bunch of a-holes come behind and copy. In the case of mounts like this, the total market is probably in the thousands of potential unit sales. Expanded to other makes/models maybe tens of thousands. It's not like there are millions of buyers for them. To have hack "companies" cheat and simply steal the design and portion of the potential sales revenue pisses me off. If a guy wants to make his own, so be it. That can't be stopped. But if you directly copy someone's design and then try to sell it or even give it away...bad form at best, in my opinion. We have enough of that crap going on with China. That was my point.

I get you. The mounts I bought were another member providing a service by providing the cut metal.

To wrap up my eval of RMP, when notified of the wrong plates being shipped they shipped the correct plates at no cost to me and included a shipping label for me to return the other plates. Definitely a customer service oriented business that makes quality parts.

Custom Motor mounts aren't new, and the ones that Fst Blk bought from me were designed by beuning, he took ideas from the existing offerings and designed his own. He R&D'd some fixes to the problems he encountered along the way, such as the plate that bolts to the block. To the best of my knowledge, he started with a set of stock motor/frame mounts, mapped the bolt locations and went from there.

Here is his build thread from this forum.

He freely gives away the cad drawings and paper that is printable to transfer onto steel.
I just have them cut to save a guy some time, I make no claims as to their strength.

I have a set of the Ron Morris mounts but I am waiting to install them until I get a 331 stroker. Also have an aluminum driveshaft waiting to go in

Speaking about these I'm being to email you plegm about getting a set of 1/2 inch drops to see if they work better in my application. Would I just need to change the frame mounts. I recall that was the only difference.

Mine have stayed clean, but I'm thinking that some consideration should be given to powdercoating them, or some kind of durable anodizing.
