Console w/Parking Brake options on my 67

With the C6 I never really needed a parking brake. Now with the addition of the TKO I want to have a parking brake for a couple reasons. One, for parking! And another, is it's real handy if you have a center pull hand brake when starting on hills. We have a lot of those. You can slightly use the hand brake while one foot is on the clutch and the other on the gas. Buat anyway I eliminated the underdash stuff a long time ago and I have the Lincoln Versailles rear disc setup. I have read the underdash doesn't provide enough leverage to work the Lincoln calipers. So my dilemma is using a center mounted hand brake with a console. I have a humphugger now that I really like for the cubby and cup holders but obviously not designed for a hand brake. Of course no factory console was either so that means custom made. Not sure I have the skill or talent to make a "factory" looking console. Is there any doner cars that would fit or other ideas?
 
I have heard that the early foxes had a console that didn't look like completely out of place, they had a center parking brake. You'd need a console that didn't go all the way up to the dash. I have been leaning toward having MTF make me one, but $$$
 
Real men don't need parking brakes when stopped on an uphill slope.

yeah, a MTF would be great but I could buy a whole early foxbody Mustang for what they cost!
 
I`ll wade in here with a couple thoughts---On my 66 the under dash handle pulls the Versailles calipers plenty tight. With compression and a good clutch just leave it in gear when you park--missing one or the other -ok get a brake. Last but not least,a line lock works really well as a hill holder and then you have you hand on the shifter already.
 
Well, I think it will have plenty of compression. It will be a freshly built 502 with 10:1 CR so that should hold it. I have long tossed all the underdash stuff and when I did the floorpans I didn't put the brackets and stuff under there. I'd rather not spend money on all that stuff. I never thought of the line lock. Good idea. Thanks
 
OK, I held back as long as I could. Craig...what the hell, man? Clutch and gas pedal are all you need on even the steepest of inclines. You must not have driven manual vehicles for some time. As long as the engine has even the smallest amount of torque, foot off brake as you ease out the clutch and work the gas to keep it going as the clutch grabs and away you go. Do you really think people used to pull out the emergency brake handle in their mustangs back in the day? Come on, man!!!

Another parking brake option not discussed is electric. The application designed set-ups are stupid money but you can surely find an electric linear actuator and piece something together yourself. Electric push-button set-up would be both slick and easy to install.

As long as the engine has even the smallest amount of torque, foot off brake as you ease out the clutch and work the gas to keep it going as the clutch grabs and away you go. Do you really think people used to pull out the emergency brake handle in their mustangs back in the day? Come on, man!!!
I can drive a stick no problem and I agree 99% of the time that's all you need to do but you my friend live in Illinois... need I say more? What's the steepest grade in Naperville? .00001%?
But seriously I rarely have had to use the hand brake on a stick shift car but it's nice to know you can!

Not everyone's cup of tea but I pirated the park brake and complete console out of a Mustang II. Took forever to find the missing rear ashtray but while hunting that I did see a couple of other consoles at swap meets. So they do at least still exist here and there.

I've seen some MII versions on the web, looks cool but I bet they are hard to come across.
 
tarafied, why not create your own console that has provision for an center mounted e-brake handle? i would start by using cardboard and build a base console with that, then use fiberglass to create a shell from there. once fitted like you want it, you can beef up the shell to handle upholstery, as well as the abuse you might dish out.
