Star Wars power sources

I get your question about dilithium crystals, but what was the anti-matter for?
If you watch animated versions of Star Wars you will see the rebels stealing fuel from the empire.

Its certainly not mentioned in any of the movies, nor have I read it in any of the books. Maybe it takes place in an alternate universe that has the stuff. Figures that our universe is outta gas.

I believe they were ion drives fueled by hypermatter.

Google maps just found the millennium falcon outside London. Maybe someone should go and investigate? Look for a sticker inside the fuel door......

They probably don't mention it in Star Wars movies but you know the flux capacitor is a possibility...

Many years ago the original Star Trek Enterprise bridge was on tour around the country and I was able to see it locally. On the helm console was a button with the words "Turbo" and a pictograph of a Porsche 911 whale tail. The prop guys apparently had a sense of humor!

the antimatter is star trek is there to help create the conditions in the average star. as you probably know when matter and antimatter touch, they annihilate each other rather viciously, and in doing so they release huge amounts of energy. this energy is then used to create power to run everything. as i recall the dilithium crystals are there to control the power out put in the warp core.

I was under the impression that the dilithium crystals were for impulse power (less than warp 1) and that the matter/anti-matter drives were for warp speed.

From Wookiepedia:

A starship, or simply referred to as a ship, was a manned vehicle used for traveling in realspace. Dating back thousands of years, the earliest starships transported spacers to new worlds through cryogenic freezing processes.[1] Upon the invention of the hyperdrive, those that were equipped could travel faster than light by entering hyperspace, drastically reducing the journey times between two solar systems.

There existed many types of starships, from smaller starfighters to the much larger battleships. Due to the complex nature of these ships, a variety of power sources were required to maintain and operate essential functions onboard. The most common power sources were chemical, fission, or fusion reactors which consumed a variety of fuels based on local resources, and dated back to the Republic'searliest days. Many large ships opted for fusion systems that contained hypermatter-annihilation cores, which could generate vast amounts of power. Despite all the benefits, most power systems required hazardous fuel to organic beings, often circulating in ship systems as corrosive liquids or combustible and poisonous gases.[2] At least some starships possessed safety protocols built into the computer system that prevented the pilot from taking dangerous and reckless actions, though these could be disabled.[3]

More from Wookiepedia:

A sublight drive was a vital starship component used to drive ships through Realspace at speeds less than the speed of light; the most common form of sublight drive was the ion engine, which the TIE fighter used two of to achieve its incredible speeds.

The usual speeds achieved by sublight drive were quite substantial, amounting to a respectable fraction of the speed of light. A freighter-sized vessel propelled by sublight drive could clear the atmosphere of a planet and its gravity well in a matter of minutes.

The most common sublight drive was produced by Hoersch-Kessel Drive, Inc., and found in vessels ranging from the T-16 skyhopper to the Imperial-class Star Destroyer. Durafly was also known for producing sublight drives.
