Oil Sending Unit Leak/Spray

For all you neigh sayers...you were right. The RTV didn't hold. Well it did...for a while. Started the car and allowed it to warm up. Watching, watching...raised the RPM several times, 2000, 2500, 3000, 3500, 4000...no leaks. Yeah! Let it idle a few minutes...same progression...no leaks. Yeah! Turned it off and let it sit for 10-15 minutes. Started it back up and ran it up the through the RPMs again...LEAK

So tomorrow night I will be removing the sender AND extension and performing exhaustive tests on the two to determine which is at fault. Will keep you posted.

Have we ruled out using JB weld? lol

I hope nobody would actually use that to fix a leak on a firetruck's brake line.

What I thought I was seeing while laying under the car is not. Tonight I removed the sending unit and attached my Oil pressure gauge. No leaks. Warned everything up started increasing RPM while looking directly at the connection. No Leak but Oil started spewing. Where from you ask...NOT the block connection and NOT the gauge connections. From the dang fuel pump arm pin. Watch and tell me if I’m wrong.

That does look like its coming from the pump, been awhile since I've used a mechanical pump so I'm a little fuzzy on the various holes and pins. I hope that isn't a sign showing that the pressure is going to prematurely leak out the various seals and gaskets.

I still think you have crazy high oil pressure, mine is like 35-40. Never really moves too much from that.

I know right...I'm an ass. However, I couldn't see the top of the fuel pump...or at at least the pin where it appears to be leaking. When I removed the sending unit and installed the gauge hose I could clearly see the issue. So it was blowing up onto the bottom of the sending unit and dripping down onto everything around it. My bad...

HEY! I'm ass around here. You go find yourself another name.

Glad you found the culprit. Change fuel pump? you need to at least pull it and see what's going on. IIRC, it is being splashed up into the roll pin that the pump arm is pivoted on.

Fixed...BTW, two wraps of teflon tape on the oil sending unit threads works AWESOME for stopping leaks...especially when the fuel pump is blowing oil on it.
