At the property I am buying, internet access is limited (read out in the sticks), I have explored Hughesnet satellite. Their equipment can receive up to 25 MB and transmit at 3 MB. Anyone have experience with this system?

Yep. I've had it for years. I didn't want the cable people to dig up my driveway years ago so I went with Hughes.

That being said. Its ok. There are limits to how much you can download based on your contract. When you run out of data allowance they really slow down your connection but you still can use it....just slower.
Of course if you get a higher version with more data I guess that would be moot.

Even in stormy weather I still get connection and then in sunshine....problems. Doesn't seem to be a correlation to when this happens.

I just got the Gen5 version and indeed there is 25mb download. Its fast but then there's that data limit.

So I do consider it ok with my own limits I pay for...I'm cheap.

The Sat is close to the equator...or at least south so make sure you have a good southern clear view of the sky and for you being so much further north it would almost be pointing towards the horizon....so no trees or buildings.

Make sure the dish is mounted on three legs (main and two supports). Its a big sail up there on the roof and wind can be a problem if its not mounted good.

Get Direct TV too....

Thanks, Mikey. Once I get the property, I will have to survey the best place for it. I spoke to a Hughesnet salesperson yesterday and he said you could stream tv channels through the system. He said there is a device called Kodi that can do this..... More to come.

I use Kodi. I like it. Free TV with no commercials and I can watch what I want when I want. Even newer movies.

When you are ready I'll direct you in the right direction.
