VMF experienced a catastrophic loss of database when they transferred the forums from a server to the cloud. Most threads/posts are now empty. Not sure if they will be ever restored. Lots of folks complaining...

I perused some of the new threads and was appalled at all of the advertisements everywhere...they even appeared over a thread post! Yuck.

StangFix accepts pictures of Mt. Fuji, if that's any help in the matter.:D

New members would be good...

And VMF appears to be back online, might be a few quirks yet but I can see all old posts now.

We sorely need a good bump in ACTIVE membership. Preferably of the vintage ownership group but any real car guys are more than welcome. The amount of daily postings around here has drastically fallen off.

Probably because you finally finished your car.

If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

Agree I just don't live an exciting enough life to post about.

For many of us here who have been around since the beginning, when Randy & Rick decided to host a VMF alternate, this place was a safe harbor for humor and other off subject topics at a time when the VMF elite cracked down on random shit and started banning people for any number of reasons, Mt. Fuji included. Despite the broad cross section of personal ideologies and beliefs, the sense of community this forum provided was its major draw. With the ebb and flow of life, many have come and many have gone and the face of this community, though familiar, has changed. Regular posters such as Johnpro, DalorzoF, and Sigtauenus are gone forever while others such as Cmayna and DaveSanborn are far less prolific posters than they once were. My sense is the technical knowledge base here seems fairly consistent and I suspect that is now the main draw. With VMF, under the Dooley reign, the value hobbyists derived from the quality of the information posted created momentum which has sustained the post volume over there, even after Bob sold the Forum.

These days VMF seems to be enjoying a perceptible uptick in the number of newbies with little to no apparent vintage automotive experience. The vast archive there (which is now at least temporarily MIA) contains multiple threads that address nearly every problem, its diagnosis, and repair but the same core questions continue to pepper the forum as many now there are unaware of or otherwise unable to navigate through the "Search" feature so the wheel gets reinvented and the accuracy of the posts has deteriorated some as a result. As a frequent visitor and occasional poster, I find myself posting to correct misinformation or complete the circle on incomplete posts. At some point I will likely tire of that role and pull away as some others already have. My sense is that a mass migration from VMF is unlikely at this time.

The impetus for this post was my re-discovery of my Corn Feed 8 shirt at the bottom of my T-shirt drawer. It's been 10 years since Seattle. Sobering thought.

I'm sure that's it. :p

I've been trying to post stuff up to get some chatter going but the noise level is just north of crickets these days.

For sure, not much going on around here. I stop in once a week or so and there are very few new posts.

Oh, that Sanborn would show his face again. Or Jeremy. Or a host of the forgotten many.

I mean talk about injustices. We lose so many of the founding tribe and yet {.}, like some humanoid cockroach, remains.

I was not involved in the origin of StangFix; I joined about 3-4 weeks after its formation.
