Shingles, not the kind on your roof

So I imagine most of you have heard of it. If you have had chicken pox as a kid you could get shingles. Most of the time it comes on the body. I have been blessed with the shingles virus in my left eye. It started Sunday. It's not on my list of recommended things to do.
I guess there is a vaccine you can get if your 50 or older, might be a good thing to do. I am just now 50 and never gave it much thought but this is my public service announcement...

Buddy got it a few years ago. Very nasty stuff. Sorry to hear, hope it passes quickly.

Julie had it on her face and neck right before Christmas. Feel for you buddy. Praying for a quick and complete healing.

Good luck on a speedy recovery. My Mom had it on her back n she said at times it was painful.

Oh mercy, I hope it doesn't affect your vision. My late wife got it when she was in her early 40s in the usual place across the back and it was not fun. My doc recommended the shot, which ranges from $235 to 260 in my area.

I got it the day I got married. They said it because I was under stress.... I wonder why

I got the shot before I retired so insurance would cover it.

thanks guys. At times it's pretty uncomfortable. Burning feeling. My doc also suggested stress was a trigger.

Sorry to hear Dude. Down here we call 'em Shangles.

this is true! Doc says one to three weeks. Could be some pain after it heals since it's on nerve endings and maybe some scaring on cornea which could effect my vision but those are worst case.

On the bright side, you'll be long past it by Tour time.
it is effecting my ability to get my trans swapped. I have to go to Australia this month and England in May. My trip downunder will probably get pushed back depending on my healing time. So I am faced with a dilemma. If I start it and can't finish I have nothing to drive. I also have a son who desperately wants to drive his 99GT so we have an engine to build and install. So I think I will just drive it with the C6 again and do the swap after tour when I have no deadline. This way I can focus on getting my son's car going and still travel for work.

Had it a couple months ago, more than likely tied to some stress. My Dr said the shot available up until 2017 was supposed to have a 50-60% success rate and the one they're introducing in 2017 is supposed to be over 90% effective. Obviously I'm waiting til summer to get mine

my eye doc says that it can re-occur, I think I will be asking about the vaccine too

That sounds like the smartest path. I on the other hand am thinking about making my life a whole lot more difficult. More to come tonight on that...
