The things we do for our kids! aka Mach 1 woes

I spent 13 hours on the road Saturday driving a total of 700 miles to pick up the kid's Mach 1. It seems to have spit the #3 spark plug out of the head ( a common modular motor problem). As I really didn't want to pay Ford several thousand dollars to put a helicoil in, my only option was to go pick it up and bring it home. He lives in LA and I live in Central California. While thankful for me to do it, he was lamenting that he wouldn't have a car for a few weeks. Mom donated her 2015 GT for his use.

The story of fixing the plug threads will follow, but trust me, getting the valve covers off of a DOHC 4.6 in a Mustang is not that much fun. Damn kids

Ha! The son probably unscrewed the spark plug just to make it appear it was spit out; he really wanted the newer Mustang to drive around...wouldn't you?

A couple hours of work, and the entire top of the motor removed and those damn valve covers are off. Had to remove the master cylinder, hydroboost, and about everything else. Only casualty was a broken AC line. One more thing to add to the repair list!

Your son is a great kid but you and Gayle are great parents also. You might want to have that talk with him about the supporting you in your old age thing !!

while you are in there and taking pictures, I was wondering if you have a picture of the rear bracket or mounting for the shaker? I see the front bracket and we have that one. We also have a metal bracket but I'm not sure if it is the rear one or how it mounts on to the engine...
thanks

I will take pictures tonight. The back bracket straddles the upper intake.

Craig - I assume you have the black plate the shaker sits on? It screws down to the aluminum front bracket and the black one pictured below that mounts to the sides of the upper intake. e85dc136529cdae56906ed101dee66fa.jpg07d3e6cdfc7a4e9ffea9dfa0b679fc88.jpg

that helps a lot! I have that bracket pictured. I didn't know how it mounted. I guess I do not have the black plate the shaker sits on. What does it look like? Is it something I could fabricate or is it complicated? Thanks so much for the pics!

It would be tough to fabricate. It has compound bends and 4 balls that shaker snaps onto. Look under your shaker and make sure it's not attached. d7e62f9f12a5d22033bf739f60749a6a.jpg489f13c98bdc0e7e4050d78589a51013.jpg

hmmm... I see what you mean. Nope don't have that. I thought maybe i just needed those ball stud/post thingy's and that they attached to the two brackets. Another part to chase down!!! thanks a bunch though, that really helps!
