T5 + TMI console, how should I seal the hole in the floor?

converted my C4 to a T5. When I get my interior in, I plan to use a TMI console with a Lokar shift boot attached to the top side of the console. How should I seal the hole in the floor around the shifter? I can think of 2 options, if there is enough room use an inexpensive rubber shifter boot on the floor underneath the console, or else use a piece of closed cell foam to seal the cutout in the floor around the shifter. Anyone have a better suggestion?

I used a second rubber boot to do the job in mine. Cut it down to reduce the height to the point it seals against the shifter at a point low enough to clear everything. Closed cell foam likely will not permit the necessary range of movement to work well.

Cmayna used a piece of a gardening knee pad on his with such good results he brought a piece over to use on mine when we installed it.

i used bud light beer cans, cut with scissors, insulation and carpet.
That's covering a hole not sealing it as it should be. Ideally, it needs to be both water and vapor tight otherwise you are creating the perfect environment for rust and corrosion. Not too mention creating a passage for exhaust and other fumes into the cabin. A couple bucks worth of sheet rubber (or a cheap molded rubber shifter boot) does the job right.

I never would have thought of using the knee pad, but I think it will work perfectly... thanks very much !
