Gotta hook up my e-brake

getting ready to install my ebrake, starting from scratch on my car with nothing to go by, but I found some diagrams on the net that I think outline pretty well where all the parts go. Any 'gotchas' I need to be aware of?

thanks

yes original setup. I think I am missing the bracket for the front cable to attach to under the car, I need to crawl under there and verify. I think I have everything else.

Not aware of any real tricks to it or such. Many will tell you it is not a good design though. The mechanics of it lack good leverage or such making it not the easiest to use or best functionality. Lots of broken handles.

thanks Terry. I guess in the grand scheme of things I am probably overthinking this but I wasn't sure of the cable routing until I searched it out. hell, I am not even sure I have a hole in my firewall yet to pass the cable thru or not since part of that is new metal. unfortunately my car is at my dad's garage 80 miles away since he has more space than I do at the moment so I can't run out and look... just trying to make sure I have everything I need in my hands when I make the trip there to work on it... spare time to work on the car is precious and I hate not being able to finish what I intended cause I was missing a part or some other issue.

I did ditch the plastic handle in favor of a billet one so hopefully it won't break, but everything else is stock.

I hear ya. I'm buttoning up the last few incidentals on my car and finding all kinds of little missing bits that are holding things up. A bracket here, a special fastener there kind of thing. Trying not to use any old hardware or such where an equivalent or better new piece can be had is great until you have to wait for the next NPD delivery!

Old trick to make the parking brake work better. Push down hard on the brake pedal, then apply the parking brake.

I installed a parking brake on my '69 many years ago (the POs mechanic had just cut it out of the car) and I don't recall it being a very difficult job with the exception of routing it around the rear brakes. Bought a complete cable kit from NPD IIRC. Of course the '69s have an emergency brake pedal rather than a pull handle but, otherwise the cables are pretty much the same.

I tried and failed last weekend. having all new sheetmetal under the car, I have lost all points of reference for mounting any of the brackets. Also discovered my trans crossmember was the wrong one, was missing the provision for the lever. I got the cables installed and routed but just hanging there for now. I need to make the hour drive to my brother's house and crawl under his mustang and take some pics and notes on where everything needs to go. Sometimes it's the simplest things that kick my ass, go figure.

I did make good progress on my wiring, and figured out a wiring issue with a dead short that kept blowing fuses. got my radio wired and working so it was not a total waste.
