Junk in the trunk?

I am not making up anywhere near the ground I need to but will make it one way or another. Worst case I don't get the new engine built and installed and I run the one that's in there now. A trans swap like you have planned is nothing for you based on what we've seen you pull off. Get 'er done. You'd be kicking yourself the whole tour if not driving your car.

thanks for the encouragement! I have not attempted to do the swap because I was helping the boys so much with their cars. We just sat down yesterday after kind of a bad day, and decided the 99 was probably not going to get done in time. The Bobcat has weekly or monthly quirky things but I think we are still going to bring it. I will start taking mine apart but I only have a few partial weekends to convert the car to a 5 speed. I am not optimistic that it will be done in time.

T5 conversion Party at Craig's in May. Who's in?

that would be awesome (but it's a TKO600).
Pulling the C6 is not fun but I have done plenty of times so it should go smooth. The biggest concern I have is I am going hydraulic throw out bearing so installing the master cylinder, pedal, etc is going to be a challenge with the engine in the car. I also have to change the motor mounts to move the engine back. Getting the bellhousing squared up should be fun under the car too! I don't have a lift so it will be on jack stands! Anyway, once everything is in then I can measure for the new driveshaft. The TKO is shorter so I will need a longer driveshaft made. Then because the engine will have moved, the exhaust will need to be modified. Those last two items are probably what will kill my chances. I can't make the exhaust shop appointment until I know I can get the car there. I also do not know how long it will take to get a custom driveshaft made.

thanks. I'm a bit depressed about the whole thing. I had planned to do the swap over the winter but I had some bodywork done on the car and they had it way longer than predicted. Then the 99 spun a rod bearing so that moved that project ahead of the plan. We have been thrashing on that in hope of getting it done in time so I didn't want two cars tore apart at the same time. That project is funded almost entirely by my son, I've helped a little but he keeps running into the "to make this work, you need to buy this part" problem. It is close but not close enough. Then of course the Bobcat keeps having quirky problems which you might expect after it sat in a feild for 6 years and now is a daily driver. But that is another reason I have been hesitant to tear my 67 down. I did the cam swap in a weekend. then the heads in another weekend. Then I have had some time to drive it to make sure everything was okay but the trans swap is going to be more than I can do in a weekend. Right now the Bobcat is in the garage with carb off and all apart and the 99 is in the other side so I can't even get my 67 in the garage!

Well keep us posted. I know if it wasn't for you and Terry I would have thrown in the towel on my car long ago. So I'm pulling for ya.

thanks, yeah we have got to keep each other motivated!
Funny thing about the Power Tour is you see cars with "Plan B" written in the windows. Sometimes plan A doesn't come together. I have been pretty lucky in the past. We did break on the way out to Charlotte in 2014 and had to do the tour in the 99 that year. I thought I had it all fixed in 2015 and it made it all the way to Baton Rouge but we rented a U-Haul to get her home. I swapped the converter and thought it was good to go for 2016 but a trip to Atlanta made me rethink it so we skipped last year.
I thought with all the driving I have done and no issues it was good to go this year (even though I didn't plan on still having the C6 in there at this point). But I'm glad it showed it's ugly head before the trip.
My boys are excited about going and they have friends going that will be there first time, you and Terry are going with maybe some anxiety so Maybe I just need to drive the wife's 07 so I can be worry free and focus on making sure all you guys make it fun. My car has caused me enough stress...

Since I'm driving solo I'm hoping the will be someone I know on the tour.

Larry and his wife are going and Jerry and his wife too. Not sure if you have met them but they used to post a lot on here. Of course we will be going for sure so we will love to hang out with you. But you will meet a lot of people. We have made some friends that we look forward to see again each year. I am sure you will too!
