Dorman Harmonic Balancer

Just wondering if anyone has used a HB from Dorman? 289 engine, bored .030 over will likely add an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake with an Autolite 4100 if that makes a difference. I'm pretty limited as to balancer selection here locally, Dorman is the only manufacturer I could find. I tried searching the net for reviews but haven't found anything. One thing I did notice was the rubber insert is roughly only half as thick as the factory balancer.

For a basically stock or even mild performance build I would think it would be fine. I've never had an issue with a Dorman part that I can think of anyway. As an option, Pioneer makes some nice balancers but they are pricey compared to stock type at about half a performance brand piece.

Dorman doesn't actually make anything, they just source and distribute. Not sure who makes their balancers.

I picked up a Professional Products balancer when I built my 331. I wanted the durability of the upgraded unit, particularly after hearing about factory replacement balancers spinning outer rings. The professional products units are bonded rather than pressed to avoid this issue.

Have you inquired from Damper Dudes and Damper Doctor, both out of Redding, CA? They rebuild harmonic dampers and I'm sure they sell them as well.

I've heard good things about Damper Doctor as well, particularly for sourcing or rebuilding unique units.

I have a Summit balancer on my coupe. Never had an issue in the few years it's been on there. Spring the extra couple bucks for an SFI rated one if you go that route. Extra peace of mind in my opinion.

dorman products are generally pretty good. for a stock or near stock application i wouldnt hesitate using one.

FYI, there was a period there where many of the PP balancers were failing. Coming apart. They are Chinese after all. Lots of bad stuff on the Interweb. That said, I bought one for the engine currently in the bay as it seems that noise quieted down a while back. Nice looking piece for <$100. The new engine needs a neutral piece so either ATI or Ford Racing. Haven't decided.
