Carb spacer required for an aluminum intake?

I have an Edelbrock Performer RPM on the way. I had a carb spacer for the original cast iron intake. Just wondering if the aluminum intake also requires a carb spacer?

Strongly recommended. Aluminum is an excellent conductor of heat, which makes carb heat soak issues more prevalent on aluminum intakes.

I have a 1/2" 4-hole phenolic spacer sitting under my carb. I had a wood laminate for a while, but it absorbed fuel and swelled a bit, so I yanked it. The phenolic spacer has lasted much longer and shows no signs of degrading.

You may also consider blocking off the exhaust crossover on the intake depending on how cold it gets where you are. It's good for preheating a heavy cast iron intake, but aluminum generally doesn't need the help. I blocked mine, but I also live in central CA where it rarely gets down to freezing.

+1 HERE.

not required, but recommended. depending on your hood clearance a 1/2" thick phenolic spacer does nicely in preventing carb heat soak issues.
