Crazy Caliper Conundrum

As part of the 2000ish Explorer-to-1966 Mustang rear end swap extravaganza, I've run into a weird one.

I ordered new calipers, and they're the right part numbers, but this is what I got...

They look so distinctly different, I'm not sure what to do here. If memory serves (I regrettably did not take photos), the cores I turned in look like the caliper on the right.

I'm guessing that they're different variations on the right part, and that they'll likely both work, but it'd be kind of nice if they matched, ya know?

First effort to track down a different one led to finding another c577 that looks just like this one. To add to the challenge, very few local Autozones seem to have these in stock, and when they do, they only have one of the two sides.

What should I do?
 
Well, as a prologue, 3 more Autozones later and I found one that matched. All is well that ends well.
 
Someone prolly just threw it in the wrong box. Happen quite often.

what should you do? burn autozone to the ground and go with oreillys.

I guess. In my experience, it's six in one hand, half a dozen in the other. Seems to have more to do with the staff than the company, and the staff at my local Autozone have been pretty great.

I checked a few different stores, and got the oddball at another store too. My guess is that it was a running change at some point from Ford. I bet both would work, but I wanted them to look the same.
 
Lots of "words" find their way into more common vernacular but that doesn't make them correct. Slang (where "prolly" originates) is a prime example of how words can become commonplace. The real issue is the perception an audience has in hearing such vocabulary. The word in question, especially in the written form, makes most "educated" people cringe and can cause persons to lower their expectations of the writer or speaker. That is my well known issue with the word. Ranks up there with the likes of conversate. I know plenty of "smart" people who dumb down their image by using such language. It matters in the real world. It really does. That is all. Fire away. :eek:

One day while exercising some salvage yard browsing privileges I noticed a small pile of calipers on the ground. Little further and there were some more. And so on. After a while I ran across two guys madly yanking calipers off as brutally and quickly as possible and tossing them into little piles next to the road. Apparently they had a pick list as they picked and chose, they didn't just go car to car grabbing all of them. Later they would come through with their truck and toss all the piles in. They had an agreed price with the junkyard so they paid a flat rate of whatever apiece and only need a total count. All those caliper went to some rebuild facility and later (we suppose) found their way into Duralast or whatever boxes.
Yes I was being nosy that day. My main point being that they didn't mark or tag any of them. So they would take all these and literally dump them out where some poor soul would be tasked at some point of figuring out what the hell they all were. I don't actually know any more but I can maybe imagine the process. "Picture in the book says a 99 Exploder RR. Hmm, you know, seems like I pulled a couple of 99 Exploder calipers earlier but they matched a completely different picture. Oh well, lunchtime yet?"

Calipers are usually identified by their casting numbers . Yes , misboxed parts do happen .
I have an AC Delco spark plug from last week that made it into the box without any threads
being cut .

Well it does me anyway . . . .
 
I just realized that I never updated this thread, but I was able to find a matching caliper. Just took a few store locations before I found the right one. I do believe that both styles are Explorer calipers, just two different styles that both fit.
