Next weekend; October 13-15th!

Heartland Vintage Racing club, http://www.heartlandvintageracing.com/vintage-race-cars-return-to-lake-garnett/, will have a 21 car contingent participating in this event. Should be a lot of fun. There are going to be some really cool cars showing up including a "real" Shelby Cobra racecar and a 66 Mustang T/A racecar. It's fairly rare to see these high dollar cars in the middle of the Country. Hope I can stop drooling long enough to get some pics and video.

Some of the cars that will be at Lake Garnett this weekend. It's FREE to watch!

2017 Lake Garnett report.

Had a great time! Sadly, there was a LOT of carnage this weekend.

1 blown motor. Actually sent metal parts out the exhaust pipes!
3 cars with valvetrain damage. One of those sent a pushrod out the valve cover.
3 cars with transmission failures. One of those was almost deadly!
1 broken motor mount (GT40).
1 had fuel issues that kept getting worse requiring a retirement.

Me...well, I was one of those with valvetrain issues. The 2 bolts that hold the shaft rockers down at # 4 cylinder either came loose and broke the heads off or just broke the heads off. Either way a fluke that damaged the rockers, bent the pushrods and who knows what else. I guess now I'll spend more money on a new rocker setup at the least. Also had a problem with the TL. At the same time that the rocker failed, it became hard to put it into 4th gear. Felt like it was pulling back into a sandbag. Seemed fine sitting still at the trailer, but I guess I'll tear it apart too.

There was a real 67 GT350 racecar, 60 something Dodge Dart, 63-64 Corvette, the 1966 Sebring Trans Am race winning Mustang from 1966 and a REAL Shelby Cobra racecar that actually raced at Lake Garnett in 1964 IIRC.

Sadly, my in-car recorder did not work, so there is none of that. That'll be another winter project. We also had a monster hail storm roll through Saturday around 5:30pm. Pretty much beat the crap out of all the trailers on the West facing side. Luckily there was no car damage!
Hard to see all the dents, but they're there.

Some video from outside the car!

thx for the pics and vids !!
The organisation seems to have high standards on security with the orange plastic fence !

That was the running joke all weekend! They also would put ONE hay bale in front of the armco...like that would help! The speeds and passing were limited for all the different run groups except ours and the modern race cars. We tried to put on a good show for the masses. And there were a LOT of people there. Not much attention was paid when the other cars were on track, but when our group went out they would bum rush the fences!

Looks like a blast Mark. Seems like one day luck will be on your side and you will get though the whole weekend without issues.

The only proof so far, that I was on track with a real Shelby Cobra!
