New shop

You'll have your own MAN door. Wow, now that's special.:D:rolleyes:
No women allowed through the man door.

Nah I mean garage door.

Overhead door. 10 foot wide 8 foot tall. On the back will be an 8x8 door that is centered to the front so you can pull straight through. I wanted a roll up metal door but they are stupid expensive.

I would encourage you to rethink your door size. With a 12’ ceiling I would go at least 10’ tall and much, much wider. Putting anything wide such as a trailer, etc, through a 10’ wide door is a challenge. Even though you may not think you will need a bigger door, life will surprise you. My door on my “shop” side is 10’ H x 20’ W. That side of the shop is 30’ x 50’ and the big door allows me to use the space very efficiently.

It’s going to be a great building, just wanted to share based on my experience.

The shop of the place I am buying has a 14' tall door on the end of it so I can plant the big ass motorhome I will buy inside the insulated and heated shop.

Next item will be a 4 post lift with jacks on it so I can do brakes and all that fun stuff on the lift....

I agree that a bigger door would be very nice and make things easier. One of those "I can live without but..." kinda things. Without investigating though I would wager wider than "stock" carries a hefty price tag. Maybe there is such a thing as a common 12' or wider door? Before framing gets too far now is the time to decide!

They do carry a premium price. Reason for the 10 wide door is above the side in the middle will be the double door to the attic. We are building a deck and steps to it. Doing that limited my door size. I’ve always made due with a 8x8 door so I’m excited about the bigger door lol.

Funny how a guy that can’t finish his own projects due to indecisiveness, dogs on you Bill, for planning and then carrying out that plan.

Really, buttnut? Don't think that post was anything but supportive of what he is doing. And I will have you know I can be decisive. I decided LONG ago that you are a moron.

I am sure it will work fine for you, just wanted to give you what I have learned from my experience. While they do carry a premium price, it is all relevant. My 10x20 fully insulated door with remote electric opener was around $3K. Maybe pricey by some standards, but compared to the rest of the building it was well justified.

My 2 doors are costing 1250 bux. I set a hard budget of 25k for this. So far I’m about 800 over budget if all goes as planned.

I like all the windows. Lots of natural light is a good thing. Just need to have means to cover them from prying eyes if need be.

I found a pallet of windows for 130 bux. Didn’t end up using half of them. Natural light was the goal.

I would suggest splurging on 1 or 2 skylights .
I have 2 for my 25 x 26 shop and it is well worth
the money .
Also , make sure the garage doors are a high bay style
for extra clearance .

Attic above garage which negates skylights.
