With this project, my wife will think I'm cheating on her, and my kids will be helping...

More details, pictures, and videos will come later, but my son wanted me to start a project thread and he wanted do a project intro video.

I hope you guys enjoy.

That's awesome that you're going to be doing this as a family.

The wife will think you're supporting a second family or hiding a gambling addiction, but the truth is worse. We're all just blowing money on car parts!

I have finally unburied the car and started getting pics, vids and things together to start working on it.

I took my cell phone camera along for a ride when I looked the car over for the first time earlier today, I hope you guys enjoy...

And directly following the interior inspection video my son was done with school, I guess they had a 1/2 day today. So he got his first look inside the Mustang.

Don't judge me for letting my kid climb around in my car, that's my business....

Those are good videos. I wish I had taken some videos like that to document the condition of the car when I first got it. Have you thought about stripping the car down and sending the shell out to be media blasted. That'll show you what you're going to have to address. The front floor pans for sure need replaced and the rear trunk side.

I would venture that fuel tank ding came while the tank was out of the car for some reason. My 68's don't have the staples on the radiator support...budget cuts I guess. Not even holes where they would have been.

Nah, I wish the tank was banged up outside of the car, stay tuned for the vid I am in the middle of publishing now, let's just say I am drinking heavily tonight...

As mentioned above... Here is the video once I got a little more light into the trunk and under the car...

That lower area of the truck floor is actually part of the whole floor, it's all one piece. I'm sure you could find the rear area somewhere though.

The passenger side might be panel bonding of some sort. Who knows though with everything else, might be Elmer's glue.

Those lower quarters and trunk drop offs...man those are rough.

Gonna need to spend some quality time with a shop-vac and a few beverages to get all that sand and loose paint/gunk out.

Does the engine run?

Oh - I almost forgot about the engine question. It could run, but I would need a battery booster and starter fluid, but the carb is mostly trashed so it won't stay running.

Not true, the lower rear piece is called the trunk floor brace, and depending on vender it ranges from $30-$60, I have to take a lot of things apart to get to it, but think I will do the drop off's and trunk support all at the same time with new bumper mounts as I cannot trust any of that back there right now. All in, those parts are around $100 total, and the piece of mind that I know I put the rear end back together properly is worth the work of drilling out the spot welds and removing all surrounding metal. I knew going into it, that I was going to replace the driver side trunk drop off already, this is just a few more pieces...

As for the sand/crud, yep the shop vac and a 6 pack will join me in the garage tonight after the kids go to bed.

Oh - I almost forgot about the engine question. Not really, I can get it to run with a battery booster and starter fluid, but the carb needs rebuilt if I wanted to keep it running for more than a few seconds.

LOL, Yeah, I'm almost afraid to take a grinder to it, but it may be a funny video, so we'll see. Between what looked like chewing gum patching the rear window, duct tape in that drivers side quarter, I really wouldn't be surprised to find elmers glue, school paper, and bondo on the passenger quarter, lol...

OK, here is the last "Inspection" video, More pics and vids to come as I clean it up and start disassembly.

And today for your viewing pleasure, I vacuumed out the car and removed the stuff just laying in the car.

You can also use the 69 Mustang seat risers, not sure if they're the same as the Cougar ones you mentioned. I have them in the fastback project, went right in and they sit 1-1.25" lower. Not sire what seats you're looking at. I have some leather power seats out of a early 2000's BMW 3 series, jury is still out if they'll fit (height wise) once the interior is installed.

Ok, that is good to know, and not sure why I never thought about that. I knew if I used the 67 cougar seat riser I would need 69 mustang carpet, so it makes sense that the 69 risers are lower too.

As far as seats go I was looking at SN95 or later (essentially anything newer than a fox body) mustang seats with the pony embossed in them.

cool project, I will enjoy the video progress! I have a lot of experience replacing the same parts on my 67 almost 30 years ago! And speaking of that, I did put 69 Mustang seat risers in mine and it lowered the seats an inch and half or so. seat pan 2.JPG seat pan 3.JPG

I too may have to do the frame rails, but hope not. I'll see when we get the trunk metal taken off.

As far as updates, we spent about 4-5 hours (moving slowly while using it as teaching for my son, plus filming most things we are doing) in the Garage working on the Mustang this weekend.

Here is one of the Video's and I will have more to come as I put them together and get them uploaded.

love the videos, my kids were about that size when I did my 67 but we didn't have smart phones then! My youngest is now 20 and my oldest is 27. Anyway, they will have great stories and memories from this!
