Back for re-restoration;)

I'm starting to look like an engine shop! I'm not sure what the heck I'm going to do. You know, the first simple thing I thought was to re-overhaul my 289 and install the T5 transmission and upgrade the differential with an upgraded pumpkin and be done with it. Well, if anyone has priced the T5 setup, it's expensive. Or, I could use the 302 and forget the fuel injection part and put a carb back on. I need a shrink! The only place I'd ever even driven the stang to was the nifty50ees~

yes, I wouldn't want it to go to scrap either. And yeah, I remember those pictures! You did a nice job. As for taking your time, well that's up to you I guess. My car is my therapy. I have anxiety so I like to work on stuff to relax (weird I know).

as for EFI and 5 speed, I just spent about $6K putting a TKO 600 in my 67. I know that was a pricey way to go but needed the strength for the 502. Anyway, I love the 5 speed. It makes the car more fun to drive. But that's me. I am contemplating EFI as well. My 93 GT is so easy to start and not fussy to restart. The Holley on the 67 takes a little finesse

I really need to ask Gary what my budget is, we got right at 12k from insurance for the mustang and 5k for the Triumph. Way under insured on the triumph, but it wasn't submerged like the stang. I do love being in my garage, like you, to relax. I wish I could leave my cell phone in the house, but always worried about mom, emergencies that may arise. But still, really a great place to be reclusive. I'll figure the stang out, no matter what I end up doing, will be just fine;)

I made up my mind to use the 302 long block, it is spic n span inside, rockers look clean. So, I'm going for it and use the parts from my 289, bolt on stuff,(valve covers, carb, oil pan, etc), the pic is just mocked up to give me encouragment. Made a little more progress on tearing it down a bit. Not going all the way after Gary informed me how much we spent last year due to Harvey. Makes me want to do things as cheaply but in good taste as possible.

Nothing wrong with using what you have. Keep the efi parts for a later conversion. Most people who don’t make the leap to efi have either been told many untruths by “carb” people or just don’t want to foot the bill. The latter I understand, the prior is hogwash. Once you drive an efi Mustang, you will wonder why it took you so long!

Hey KB3;) Yes, I'll box it all up and put on a shelf along with my other things. I think I'll enjoy the upgrade of the 5 speed with an appropriate differential(pumpkin) or whatever diffs available(which I haven't looked into at all. meh, I've plenty to do in the meantime. I imagine it will be a year or so before even contemplating re-installing the engine. When I get out there and undisturbed; I make a great deal of progress, but that's a rare thing nowadays.

When I bought my engine and trans to do the EFI, I debated just throwing my carb on it too. I think I went back and forth about a dozen times. Sometimes I wish I would gone with the carb.

In the end I finally found the time to get it done. It is really nice to get get in and just turn the key and go.

Keep us posted on the progress.

I feel exactly that way RapidR! just makes me sound wishy washy:( I haven't totally given up on the idea of the EFI. I found a guy nearby on CL which sells early 90's mustang parts and has about 30 or so mustangs. I spoke with him about the conversion and he had done a few. I would still like to go meet with him and hear what he has to say, and what he can offer in advice and parts. My confidence is a little low on the wiring probably more than anything. Yes, the cost for a gas tank, engine wiring, and stuff, sigh, If I can cut down say on just leaving the suspension alone, maybe upgrade the upper control arms, that would save a bunch of dollars. There's nothing wrong(I hope) with the rack n pinion, crap, I need to pull that thing off and see if it was/is rusty from the flood waters.
Today, I'd really like to get the AC evaporator and under the dash wiring out, gag! lol It's still kind of nasty inside despite having tried my pressure washing it all.
Just having you guys here really helps~ thank you;)

I did do all the work on this several years ago, and I'll be darned If I can remember any of it! lol Getting close to getting the dash gutted;) That's a tilt steering column which tilted more downward than up!

Are there any modifications that need to be made for the T5 shifter coming up through the shifter hole?
Wonder if my EZ tag on the windshield still works!;)

Can't promise on the T5 lining up just right. In my case ('65), I used adjustable engine mounts to drop the engine to gain a bit of hood clearance. This also allowed me to shift the engine L or R and also front to back. The alignment in my case was perfect. Pushing the shifter body up through the stock hole with literally maybe 1/8" clearance in some areas.

Using the TCI front suspension and included motor mounts caused me to trim the back (I think, could be the front.....I’ve slept since then) of the shifter hole by about 1/2”. Minor mods and no way to tell once the shifter boot is in place.

When my T5 was installed in my '67, I took a little bit off the front right corner of the hole, but after cinching the transmission in place it looks like I would have been ok with no modification. It was definitely close.

Thank you guys! Though I don't need the transmission support bracket right now, any particular place to buy it? and I notice there isn't a transmission mount on the T5. Would it be too much work to use the old 289 bolted up to the new bell housing and T5, as a test fit? It'd be a lot lighter than a full engine, just a thought, or it is what it is and address at that time? probably thinking too much:(

Wowzers, had a little time today, oh, wrote Randy(midlife) regarding wiring and he's going to set me up when the time is right, gee, he had the date when he checked out the under the dash wiring in '08!! Incredible!

Speaking/writing of wiring, wrestled the evaporator case and under the dash wiring out~ ugh, Gosh that was a pain, kidding, wasn't that bad.
Got chicken on the stove, be back! ;)

You can find the T5 trans mount parts from just about any of the normal mustang parts houses. Or online from others (EBay). I just kept my eyes open for one to be on sale and grabbed it when that happened. You'll need both the mount piece itself (bolts to trans) and the crossmember. Less than $100 before a sale.

Thank you Terry;)

Hi John! I didn't try anything on the Mustang say by turning on the ignition, I just figured everything was/is kaput. I was,I am hoping to make the ac system work by replacing the blower motor, take the evaporator case apart, but I don't know if parts are even available for it(actuator switch/blower motor). I know a replacement evaporator system is about 700, the entire AC system is about 1400.oo, but I don't need the entire system( condensor, compressor, etc). I'd replace the blower motor if available, it was testy to remove. Just trying to save money where I can;)
