So sorry to hear about your loss. I lost my father last year too. Sometimes life just isn't fair.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your Father. Keep us posted on the progress of your car and your journeys with Dad's.

I, like Mark above are sorry for your loss but do remember the great times with him and enjoy your long drives in the convertible whenever you need to re-connect with him....

Sorry to hear about your dad. Dad's and cars are a strong bond. He will always be riding with you.

I bought my mustang in 2004 and finally got to take my dad to a couple shows, then he passed in 2006. I couldn't bring myself to even uncover my car for almost a year. Now I know he's riding with me anytime I go out.

Thanks for the kind words guys. It's one of the many reasons why I like this community.

When I parked the convertible at my brothers (3 hours away even), I covered it and didnt even want to look at it. I think I'm ready to roll it out and run it. I wish I could get it down to my garage but space is at a premium until mine is finished...and even then it's going to be tight but I'll figure it out.

Thinking about putting a lift in or something.

I am pretty close to my dad and can't imagine losing him, I did lose my mom to cancer and even though it's been 20 years I still have tough days. I am so sorry to hear about your loss

So it's been a few more months now but there's light at the end of the painting tunnel. Whats the old adage? Good, Fast, Affordable...pick two? Well I picked good and affordable. My car has been at my painters house for almost a year but it's about done. We have a tentative pick up date of Sept 29!

I also neglected to write about the most agonizing decision I've had to make on this car...what color to paint it. Over the last 6 months or more i've stared at colors trying to picture what would fit it the best. I started with gray's, namely 'magnetic metallic' but the more I looked at it the more I just couldnt see it. Then I shifted to the reds...kinda knowing I probably wouldnt do a red since, in my opinion, it's way too overdone. Regardless, there are a LOT of great looking shades. I had looked at a late 90's jaguar red that was really nice. There was a 'cranberry red' i saw on a nova that was cool. However, i really liked the Ford 'ruby red' and I could potentially see the car in that color...but the intention for this car is to be my nice daily driver. Having done a tri-coat paint in the past, I know how difficult (and expensive) it can be to blend. Oh yeah...like 4oz of the tint pigment was $300 on top of the cost of the clear to be tinted which kinda blew the whole "keep it sort of affordable" mindset.

Then I looked at blues. I really like blue. The 2017 Nissan's 'blue pearl' was really nice. Toyota's blue mica...and lets not forget deep impact. Anyway...it's true what they say that, when you see the color it'll hit you in the head like a 2x4. There I was cruising by an Audi dealership when i saw an A3 that was 'scuba blue'. Done deal...that's the color.

With that...here are a couple pic's. Still trying to remember the in's and outs of this forum. I'll add some more pictures once i figure out the orientation issues.

That's looking really nice, digging the color.

Much appreciated guys. My tentative pickup date is the 29th. Trying to get my other projects wrapped up and get the shop ready!

Trading emails with my painter. Confirmed, I'll be picking it up on Sunday. That's pretty exciting! I'll be spending tomorrow getting some things moved around in my shop to prepare for it. I was working on building a 71 Honda CL350 that i'm not quite done with but done enough that I can move it out of the way.

He sent some more glamour shots...

I drug the beast home yesterday morning! Got it unloaded and just sat and stared at it for about an hour.

This morning i put together my "todo" list for basically the next 3 months. I have a tournament to prep for this week so I probably wont get to play with it aside from maybe getting it blocked up in the air. Next Monday the work begins!

Been slowly chipping away at a few leftover projects pre-paint.

To get the transmission mounted last year, I had to move the crossmember back about 2 1/2 inches or so. I also had to cut out the top portion to make room for the taller TKO600. I had tacked it in before sending it to paint...not sure at the time why i didnt fully weld it in but eh. So Monday, i welded it solid and added gussets to the frame rail corners of the mount. I also stitch welded it to the floor. I'm pretty sure it's overkill but I'm not sure how much lateral force a transmission gets so better safe than sorry. Maybe at some point i'll fab up a whole new cross member cause this ones kinda ugly...but it's under the car.

I also finished welding the seam from the floor pans under the car. I had seam welded the top but wanted to do a little extra under it to add more stability. With that, i'm pretty sure i'm done metal working under the car. I'll seam seal it this weekend or next week.

On to the drivers side bumper mount. Sadly, the bolts were broken and I couldnt find a way to get at the nuts on the inside to fix it. So I cut a 5" x 2" "window" into the side of the frame rail in the engine bay which allowed me to get the nuts out. I have new grade 8 bolts and nuts for the repair. The plan is to weld some 1/4" steel "rods" to the side of the nuts that will go inside the frame. That will keep the nuts from spinning if i ever need to adjust the bumper mount again. I'd thought about tacking the nut to the inside of the frame rail but feel that would probably not be a good idea since it would remove some of my adjustment capability.
After I get all that sorted and installed, I'll weld the improvised "window" closed and repaint that area.

Hoping to get that wrapped up tonight or tomorrow (minus the touch up).

Over the weekend I finished up the bumper mount. I executed the plan of making "brackets" on the nuts inside the frame rail so they cant spin and managed to get the bumper installed. I sealed up the hole I'd cut in the bumper to get at them on Saturday. It wasnt all sunshine and rainbows since I did chip the apron paint under the bumper. I'm not too terribly worried about it since my painter said he'd be able to do touch ups on it. He's pretty proud of it and I think he's going to use it to drum up some more business...anywho.

I got the engine and bay cleaned up from paint dust. There's some overspray'd primer that I'm going to polish out...no big deal. I also pulled the headers out since I wasnt super happy with how they fit AND i wanted to touch up some of the engine bay paint behind them. Worked on the headers in a few areas with a hammer and they should fit MUCH better. They'll be going back in tomorrow evening after the bay paint has cured.

Also did a lot of other little piddly things like:
* installed the rear bumper
* installed backup lights
* installed parking lamps
* installed trunk springs
Other stuff I cant recall

Plan for the week:
* seal some seams under the car
* install headers
* put car back on the ground
* finish sand the air vents and other modified dash areas
* paint dash
* paint interior of doors (if i dont run out of paint)

OPTIONAL
* install trunk weather strip
* install back glass
* polish off overspray from the engine bay
