Oh go ahead, complain, we are listening.

Why? If that owner got out alive so should the car. It goes like this in order of importance. Kids, dogs, wife and car. Load 'em all up and get out. Why leave the car behind? :(

Unfortunately this was an extremely fast moving fire that hit without warning. Most barely had time to get out safely. In fact, it was so bad that several people got burned to death in their cars as they attempted to drive away. I always wonder the same thing, but the reports coming out are just beyond belief with this fire.

I've seen some videos of people trying to get out and driving through the fires. It's some pretty scary stuff.

The air quality ranking information as of this morning is that Livermore Valley (about 30 miles from San Jose) is well over 200 units of whatever that represents while most of the rest of the SF Bay Area is in the high 100's. The air is thick with the aroma of smoke and while folks are being strongly advised to stay indoors or wear N95 smoke masks, the forecast is more of the same for the next several days. A number of public schools including San Jose State College are closed due to extreme unhealthy air.

Curiously, PG&E (the major electric utility in NorCal) says if they are held responsible for the fires, their insurance will be inadequate to cover the likely loses. Even more bizarre is one newscaster indicated that the Federal Government's policy regarding forest management is let nature take its course and "Let it Burn". With the massive acreage of Federal forest lands currently on fire in California, such a policy would appear to be insanely negligent and IMHO amounts to a catastrophic public nuisance. Where is all the "accountability" that passes for public discourse these days?

Every year we see these fires erupt all across California. Many times it is discovered that one or more are started by persons either accidental or otherwise. What can be done or is being done in the other months prior to the fire season to try and prevent these things? Couldn't natural fire breaks be cut in / built BEFORE? Couldn't more fire fighting equipment be purchased and made available prior? It just seems every year it reads like some kind of surprise event when at this point it is more of a simple seasonal reality.

Maybe those billions spent on that super train to nowhere could have been used more wisely.

Do not go to the super waste of money, err super trainwreck.
Gobanor moonbeam wanted to save money and not clear the forests of dead trees.

What I find amusing in a sad way is that the power company cut the power before a wind event and everybody was up in arms as to why was the power shut off. Now it seems that they my be at fault and do not have enough insurance to cover it.

California is so jacked up. Guess that’s what happens when left wing nut jobs are allowed to run a state...

Prayers go out to the families that have lost so much, might be time to take your insurance money and evacuate the state.

The big fear is after the last couple of years we may not be able to obtain fire insurance on our homes. I have a wood shake roof and can’t find anybody to insure it other than my current company. If they refuse to renew, it could cost me a $50k new roof. Oh, and I live in town, not in the forests.

You have the order wrong.

Dog, get in the car. Anyone else that wants out move your butt and get in the car, I'm leaving in 30 seconds!

Lol

Yes all that used to be done but Moonbeam cut the funding so he could pay for all the sanctuary stuff. Newsom is right there on the same track and the CA voters must want this sort of mismanagement.

Mel, Tim, & Bill: You are aware that Moonbeam has NO JURISDICTION over federal lands when it comes to forest management and fire suppression policy? The current fires are the culmination of decades of mismanagement. There is enough malfeasance for all leadership to shoulder the "blame" here.

So help me understand more clearly. I'm sure that there are both Federal and simply State managed lands involved, right? How does it get fixed? The billions in annual losses certainly far outweigh the costs of proper land management. We all end up sharing much of the cost as initially shouldered by either the government or insurers. It seems irresponsible to allow it to keep happening like this when much could be avoided.

Initially, I had it right just like you laid it out but figured I was making to light of the situation and I really wanted to have a serious discussion. It just seems beyond idiotic to me that this seems to happen ALL THE TIME now out there. And I don't buy the climate change BS as the root cause. Natural landscapes routinely experience fires and have forever. It's a very essential part of the health of those ecosystems.

Terry:

You hit the nail on the head! Have you considered running for public office?
