thinking about new tank with in-tank efi pump

I have spares on hand for stuff you can't typically find locally. Pertronix board is another example. Also a readily available starter solenoid and ignition switch but small stuff on hand is better than having to Uber across town! Not only do I never want to have to pay a huge towing bill...my car should never face the shame of needing rescued! Leave that to the Chevy guys.

Well Terry, not all of have built our cars two or more times and have 3 of everything in our garage.

One could say if you build it right the first time, it should run forever. I wouldn't say that, but one could.

I fully expect mine to run for a very long time without issue. That's why I try to only buy the best stuff I can afford but even the best parts fail prematurely. And Pat, the spare parts I have for long road trips are bought just for that. A few hundred bucks worth of peace of mind. The "extra" stuff from all my reboots stay at home. Can't really haul back up engines and transmissions in a little mustang!

FYI, Aeromotive said the following in an email:
The Stealth Tanks are stamped steel and painted silver on the outside. I do not believe the 69 Mustang tank has a drain plug, though draining the tank will be straight forward using the pump and the return line off the regulator if need be.

few days ago I finally resolved myself to getting the Stealth II tank, went back in to Summit to order it and the $50 coupon had expired, so I exited... snooze and lose I guess, analysis paralysis, whatever you want to call it... wanna get this done over the winter, not sure whether to wait and see if any sale in January or just suck it up and spend the extra 50 bucks.

I am only struggling cause before I went EFI I got a brand new stainless tank with a drain valve, sandblasted the bottom and had it Line-X'd. it's essentially a brand new tank and a nice one, but at the point I did it I had not decided to go efi.

Bite the bullet and go for it. I did it thanks to the advice of some of the members here and I have never looked back.

I went for the Tanks Inc with GPA4 in tank pump.

Though I believe you have other options, this is what I went for and I'm extremely happy. Turned my 65 from a weekend driver to a daily.

fedex delivered my new gen 2 stealth tank yesterday. I dropped it off at LineX to have the underneath sprayed, I wanted it black and not the silver it came as. they just called, all done gotta go pick it up. Once I got the tank in my hands yesterday and took a look, I had to order some fittings to be able to plumb my outlet and return lines. Those should be here tomorrow. will probably be a week or 2 before I have time to mess with it... now the question, why the hell did I fill my gas tank before starting this project?!?

the instructions for the tank call for a high flow return-style regulator, but I think the fitech has it built in and I don't need, can anyone confirm?

I have the feed line going straight to the FiTech with only a high flow filter and pressure gauge in between. The FiTech runs the pump to maintain correct system pressure. Return line straight out of the FiTech unit back to the tank. Not a single issue. :)

thanks HP, that's what I figured but good to get confirmation.

LineX got the underside of my tank done, picked it up yesterday. Hopefully the fittings I needed will get here today and I can get the tank swapped sometime next week.

If I could ask...

How much did it cost to have the underside of the tank sprayed by LineX?

$150. it runs in my mind a couple years ago when I had the tank done that I have in there now it was only 100, but I prepped that one myself before dropping off. I may have been able to negotiate it down a little this time, and should have, but didn't. I could have scuffed/painted this one black but I like the linex and feel it's pretty much forever.

I was just curious as to how the cost would compare to doing it yourself. It's not really that bad when you consider the material costs plus the hassle of prepping, masking etc. in your own garage. If you already had the equipment (spray gun) or left over material it would be a different story. Either way, coating the bottom side of the tank is a really smart move for a number of reasons. Plus it looks great!

finally got the new tank installed on Friday. lovin it so far, really cleaned up the underside clutter by getting rid of the frame mounted pump and rigged up return line I had before... very clean and neat install. and QUIET. did not take it for a test drive as they had pretreated all the roads with brine for upcoming weather... but started up and idled easily in the driveway... but that's as much testing as I could do. will update once I can do a real road test but I do not anticipate any issues.

I finally ordered my tank last week. I won't see it until March. Looking forward to cleaning up the lines and stuff too.

I figured I would toss a couple pictures in this thread too.

I finally pulled my new tank out of it's box.
It does have a drain built in too.
