fuel sending unit gasket

What do you use to "stick" the gasket to tank when installing sending unit? I forgot what I used years ago. You know, sending unit gasket won't stay in place, use a little ______ to get it to stick to tank.
 
Vaseline. KY-Jelly for those whose minds are in the gutter...
 
If its a new tank, bend the little tabs down just a bit that hold the sending unit in. You should have to use a special tool or tap it in with something non-metal if there is any gas in the tank. If you can screw it in by hand it will leak.

I'm needing to keep the gasket in place while I place the sending unit prior to lock ring. Tank is in vehicle.
