had to remove the tail-light lenses, bumper and fiberglass panel, just to get the pop-open cap off

modified the custom filler neck, John, I will get yours done once I fill this ona few times and see if I like the way it works. I put the hole toward the bottom thinking it will allow the nozzle to go in deeper (insert bad jokes here).

6 more gallons, I ought to get 60 to 80 more miles before a fill up. Still won't keep up with LarryG but I can go a little further!

This filler neck has the most dramatic angle of all years.
This is 65/66 on bottom, 67/68 next then 69/70 and on top the 22 gallon tank into a 67/68 filler

Instead of a bigger fueltank , you should put in a smaller engine :ns:yah :yah :yah

I'm just trying to keep up with Larry on the Power Tour but now he added an OD trans! I am going to have to pull a tanker truck now!

Looks like the splash back when filling will be worse.

I put the plate in deeper and at an angle. I also put the hole in a location that should allow the nozzle to go in further. It has a pretty sharp angle right away. I think my design will work but I haven't filled it up yet. 22 gallons of premium fuel, it's gonna cost me! The nozzle should actually be in farther than the previous one I had in the car.

Any use for that 16 gallon fuel tank now :hmm Is it going in the 65?

Your projects on the 67 are dwindling. Almost time to go get a 69 to work on :thum

yes Larry!!! I keep making you stop and wait for me to refuel!
but seriously I wanted a bit more range.
And yes we are registered and hotels booked. Some even paid for already.

Bill,
Yes the 16 gallon tank will go in the 65. And I will never run out of wish list items for the 67 but running out of money is a big problem!
On the 17th my boys and I are coming back out to my dads to put the 9" in the 69 and strap the trailer axle to the front and try to get it on a trailer!
Lucas is gung ho! He has been aplying for jobs at every fast food joint around, he wants to get that thing going!

I got the 220V outlet wired and hooked up the gas to my borrowed welder (finally), I used it to weld the filler neck. Works so much better than my 110v mig. So I can get the 65 welded up and make it a roller. Then it will get rolled out of the garage and the 69 can go in.

well I am excited for him but we got to settle up with you first. At least he can get started go thru what all it needs and what we have.

It's all good. In time, I've got plenty to keep me busy. I'm just glad there was tons of parts and things look like you came out alright with our agreement.

I went with a 22 gallon fuel take as well. The guy who did my metal work on my mustang modified my neck to work with the tank. Never filled an old stang yet, is their splash back when fueling or only when its being topped off?

Well, two things usually happen. The neck is designed for leaded fuel nozzles which are much bigger. They made the unleaded hole smaller so when there were choices you couldn't accidently put leaded fuel in a unleaded car. Because of that the fuel can splash out while filling because the angle is almost 90 degrees. But the bigger problem I have had is that the auto shut-off doesn't work because the nozzle is designed to sense a pressure increase whwen the tank gets full and shut off. The nozzle is so small in the filler that it can't sense the pressure change so you have to listen, watch and keep an eye on the pump and kind of know when to shut it off or you will splash gas all over the place!
So I have made several versions of modified filler necks. The idea is to keep the fuel from splashing out while filling but also allow the auto shut-off to work so you don't have to worry about over filling. Some even have issues with splash when you accelerate on a full tank with the original pop-open cap as the gas will slosh back and run all over the car. This mod doesn't eliminate all the problems but I have had several versions out there and most feedback is that it helps a lot.
