65-66 Front Drums on Rear

I was wondering if anybody knows whether the front drums from a 65-66 can be used on a small bearing 8"rear end when converted to 10 x 2 1/2" drum brakes using the Mid 80's Full Size Backing Plates? If I recall these drums were the same for 10 x 2 1/4 and 10 x 2 1/2 front brakes... I read this fact on an older web page dedicated to this swap... main reason I ask is that I have a set of 65/66 drums which only have 6,000 or so miles on them... and the thoght of doing the conversion crossed my mind since my rear axle seal leaked and ruined my 10 x 1 3/4 shoes... So I must must buy new shoes anyways..
