8.8 Inner Pinion Bearing

once the pinion is removed from the rear housing a bearing and crush sleeve stays in the housing along with the seal. Im seeing conflicting stories on how to remove the bearing and sleeve. Ive read tha it is pressed into the housing from both sides and i know that cant be correct. Anybody have any experiences they care to share?

When the pinion is unbolted and removed only the inner bearing and shims comes out with it. The inner race remains as it is pressed into the housing. When you remove the outer seal, the outer bearing and crush sleave can be pulled out from the front by hand leaving the outer bearing's race still in place. Each of the races are pressed in to the housing, one from the inside, the other from the outside. They should come out easily with a brass drift if I remember right. Pressing them in can be done carefully with a large socket and small hammer...
