Anyone here use a "Raydot" mirror?

I think I like the overall look of these mirrors and I am pondering one for my 65 fastback and want some opinions on how well they work on the street and how well they stay put ,are they big enough etc..?

Also, how big of a hole does that mount need? Will it sit flush on the top of the 65 door being it has that curved top (that may be an issue)?

Raydot in question, its about 4" worth of mirror.

I kinda liked the Talbot style, but the repops sound kinda sketchy and the mirror surface is even smaller, so I think I may pass.
Talbot..

i've got a n.o.s. pair from the 70's like the second pic but haven't mounted them on anything, so cant comment. after looking at the first pic, i'm curious if the raydot mirrors & the cycleray motorcycle headlights on the old harleys are the same company. buckets look the same & even the riveted mounts on the bottom match up.

The mounting position may be a problem with the vent window function. You can cut a small spacer to fit between the flat mirror base and the curved door. By doing your own, you can adjust it for position compared to the vent window. Just have to watch how they tighten on the curve.

I believe they use a 1/4" stud mount with a nut from inside. A friend was using them on a Cobra but I never got a good look at them.

I'm going to use the raydots, But i also like the style of the long based 67-8 Bullet mirrors they flow better than the raydots IMO.

I. Have the ones in the top pic on the 66, they're worthless.

...not enough to see out of the back of trailer huh.....

Think long and hard about them..... they are not the most user friendly things out there..... I have these

as well and its a crap shoot every time I look.

I like both styles over the factory '67 square mirror, I couldn't see much area behind me with it. I like the Raydots if going for a 'race ready' look and the talbots for the street if you've still got chrome bumpers, window trim, etc.

I have the large head chrome talbots in your 2nd pic, I like the look on my '67 but they don't cover the 2 stock holes in the door as the foot is smaller and the door is 'dished' where they mount. I plan to have the extra exposed hole closed when bodywork is done. I don't see much more than I did with the stock square one but like the look a lot better.

I moved them as far forward as I could that would clear the vent window opening to have as wide a view angle as I could get. I put a wide angle glue-on on the pass. side but it's too wide and I see the sidewalk and fences in it. I have 2 extra talbots from an FFR Cobra that are supposed to be wide angle lenses made in them but haven't had them on the car yet to test the field of view, if it is at least 25-50% wider field of view than the flat mirror I'll be very happy. Any minor amount of curveature will help. The wide head only swivels so far out and I can still see the door with it all the way out.

I would like to find a hard plastic that would match my door curve the mirror sits on and make a pedestal for the mirror, then I could tilt it out a little farther giving me more view and clearance with the vent window.

we put one of these on the 65...it is a case of form over function as they look great, but worthless as a mirror goes. I checked the position back and forward and could not find a great compromise between viewing angle and wind wing opening. So we gave up and went with viewing angle. The wind wing will only open an inch or so.

Thanks for the great insight guys. From what I see the raydots will be a tough install and possibly impact how I use my vent window.

Maybe the Rotunda style is a nice compromise? But, how do you get that front screw in the thing?

I have new paint and no holes in my door yet and need to get this mirror choice right the first time.

What else should I consider for functionality? I plan on driving this car a lot and dont want to crash into someone else, so I really want a mirror that provides a decent and CONSISTENT view.

I took a cut down phillips bit and welded it in a 1/4 wrench..... Have you seen the black chrome mirrors from SorT?

He used to have the 67/68 mirrors in black chrome as well, didnt see them on the site though

I've got the mirrors in the 2nd pic, I stuck one of those convex mirrors on the PS. I found one the same size. It isn't obvious but does add a bit more range. The DS is usless.

When we install the Ray dot mirrors, I take and mask the top of the doors off and use the washers that come with the mirrors, then mix up some bodyfiller put it on top of the door where I want the mirror and press the washer into it making a perfect mold of the door . Then all you have to do its round the edges of the filler and paint them black. You will now have a rock solid mirror that won't move when you are driving down the road.

Good Idea Rich, how much filler is needed? Is there a chance of it cracking apart when you tighten down the stem bolt or does it not take that much filler?

I installed a bulldog that I got for my dad in 1972 and mounted it the same way, we still have the truck and it hasn't cracked yet. I've made them for several of my friends, but to expensive to sell.
