Coupe to Fastback build 67/68

I thought I would move the former drag car story here since it is going to be a real car now.
Some may remember the whole thing started when I wanted to build a trailer from the back half of a Mustang for the Power Tour.
Dave donated a 67 rustbucket nicknamed the POS.

It was pretty rusty and stripped. I ended up not building a trailer after all and thought about making a drag car from it. Then John posted he was tripping a 67 coupe he got from Colman. So I bought that.

I started working on it repairing the dash and cleaning up the floorboards as well as collecting all the stuff it was missing.

Local members, Jon and Joe even came over to lend a hand

The roof was in bad shape from having a vinyl top and rear frame was bent.

I thought about using the POS rear rails and started to clean those up

Sometime during all this my friend who I sold my RUSTY 68 Fastback to kept bugging me to sell him this 67 coupe.
Many members had contributed items for the drag car and I still have those, they will go into the Falcon, but I did decide to jointly build the 67 with my friend and later (recently) sold it to him. We took the 68 Fastback I sold him a few years ago and the 67 Coupe over to the body shop where I did my 67 and the transformation of Coupe to Fastback has begun

I hope I haven't made any enemies by abandoning this car as the drag car. It will be a non-members car now but I will still document the work we do on it. It is going to be an Eleanor Clone.
I put any updates here and start any updates on the Falcon in the Drag car thread.

it is making progress.
Today we picked up the engine and trans. A 5.0 and AOD. Gonna rebuild it. I snapped a few pics, the new quarters and Eleanor kit, the sub-frame connectors welded in...

I don't think I've ever seen a Mustang torn down so far :part You're incredible! :wor
dne'

a little surgury, I stripped most of the usable parts remaining on the 68 FB. Then it was chop, cut, rebuild time! The guys at the shop cut the roof of the 68 and test fit it on the 67...

I think he bought MTF **edit** is is NOT MTF, I don't know where he got it **edit**

That Torino is going to be sweet, it has a 514 crate motor! I had a 72 too, I think they are pretty cool.

does anyone else think it's ironic for the other half of Coleman's anti-Eleanor to become an Eleanor?

yeah, I'm pleased with the quality. My buddy and I try to go in once or twice a week and do some things too to keep the labor costs down. After Christmas we are going to re build the front suspension. He wants to go with a rack & pinion but keep the stock UCA/LCA. We will do the Arning/Shelby drop and replace all the ball joints, bushings, etc. He bought an Ididit tilt column. The engine is at the machine shop getting hot tanked. We expect all the machine work and parts to be ready for assembly first week of January. The vintage air unit is mounted and all the welds pretty much done. Now the body work begins!

I'm sure he's excited on how fast it's going. I'm ready to see a progress page on YOUR 65 :thu

Bill

When we get done with this one, we will put the 65 on the frame rack. I want to make sure its all square before i start welding it together.
I did start taking the coupe apart.
