Dear Rally friends,

Our rally school is set for Saturday, November 4th. It will be held in one of the classrooms at my church, St. Barnabas Presbyterian Church at 1220 W Belt Line Rd, Richardson, TX 75080. Registration will open at 9am. We will start the class as soon as it looks like most of the attendees are there.

Admission is free to those who RSVP to rally@texasscca.org. We need to have a firm count to set up the room for our use. $5 per person will be charged for walk-ups.

We will start with a brief overview of rallying in general, with a mention of other types of rallies that you might encounter.

We will describe the three rally types we do, then go into detail on how to best attack each one. Hints and tips will be given. There will be time for questions.

I. Shortest-distance rally. On a map with 12(?) points marked, we give you 1/2-hour(?) to determine the order you would need to visit these to do it in the shortest distance. Then you drive that route, and we measure your distance. There are no tricks or traps, so we won't spend much time on this rally type at the school.

II. GTA rally (Tour). In this rally we give you a route to follow, which you should have no trouble doing. We ask you questions, the answers for which will be found on signs or from landmarks along the way. Most of you won't find (or properly recognize) all of them.

III. GTA rally (Course). Again, you are given a route to follow. But we have ways to influence you to take a detour in several places, and these detours cost you points. Signs and landmarks are used to tell us which route you took, and to tell you that you are where we expect you to be.

Some of the questions are tricky. We will explain some of them in the school. Others we will save for future rallies!

There will not be any driving as part of the school.

The school will be at the northeast corner of Belt Line Rd and Mimosa Dr in Richardson. Come to the north side of the church, and use the door in the middle of that side of the building. Then turn right, and look for a rally sign.

We hope to see you there!

Sounds like fun. I attended two Starlite Rally's. We ran from Santa Barbara to Las Vegas. We were given a 'standoff' location and had to take a bearing where the checkpoint was. There was a blinking light at the checkpoint. You had to get to the checkpoint on time.
It was wild

Well, ours a quite a bit different. You ought to come give it a try. There is no timing involved, except an overall time that is ample, to allow everyone to get to the end and the awards ceremony in a reasonable time. No speeding required. Just a sharp eye and a careful read of the General Instructions. Come to the school to learn about it at no cost. Then come to the December 2nd charity rally to give it a try!

Some changes to the notice of the Rally School:

Liz Witt will explain her course-following puzzles from the Clear Blue Sky rally, if you are still not sure why you missed a sign. This part of the school will be especially interesting to experienced rallyists.

Sounds like fun but I'll be at my Dad's celebration of life. If this an annual event, I could attend next year
