Finally got a chance today at lunch to take the Mustang around the block with the new 3rd member with the posi 3.55 gears. The weather has not been very cooperative the last couple of weeks.
Pretty decent improvement off the line. All push and less wasted energy from what I can tell. Still not running a 10 second quarter or anything along those lines but improvement none the less and I wasn't attempting to run the quarter in the first place.
The only issue I have now is the speedometer is still reading about 15 mph fast. Before I started the car had an 18 tooth gear in it. I had purchased a 20 tooth that I am betting is the correct one from John's Mustang here in town.
The problem is the gear coming out of the car is different. It's longer, etc. I am wondering is it possible that someone has swapped out the speedo cable through the years?
The gear I bought from John's just flat isn't going to attach to the cable that's in the car. A new stock style cable is only about $20 at CJ so I am thinking maybe I should trade out the cable in the car for a new one that is correct for a '66?
