Original Mustang tire sizes

I have been looking at Coker's Firestone Wide Oval RWL radials and I've been trying to remember what the stock tire size on a '69 Mustang would have been. I believe that it was F70-14 although I've seen E70-14 on some charts. Anyone remember what the original Wide Oval size was and will the F70's fit in a stock wheel well? I'm presently running BFG Radial T/As that are 215/70-14s, but I really don't like the feel these tires provide. I previously had Firestone Firehawks on the car and they were great, but when I replaced them the only 14" RWL tires available with a major manufacturer's logo were the BFGs. Firestone had removed their name and their tires showed only "Firehawk Indy 500" on the sidewall.

Also, how would either the E70s or F70s compare in size to my 215/70s?

The standard tire size for 1969 depended upon the model. All inliners and 302's had the C78x14 as standard. The 351/390's had E78x14. The 428's and GT's had the E70x14. The SCJ had the F70x14 standard.

The E70x14 is comparable to the 195/70-14 in a 70 series; the F70x14 is closest to a 200/70-14.

THX Mid. I was amazed that the 215/70R14s that I'm presently running on the car are equivalent to H70-14s. That was the size I had on my '72 Gran Torino wagon back in the day, which was a massive lime green bus. I guess, at the price of the Wide Ovals, I'll stick with the BFGs. More rubber on the ground.

Mid:

Didn't the Boss 302 have F60 x 15's ?

Jeff: I believe you are right. Picky, picky, picky.:)

The more I thought about my amazement that the 215/70R14s are the same size as H70-14s or 8.85/14s, the more I am surprised that they could mount them on my 14x6 rally wheels. I previously had the same size Firestone Firehawks on the car, so they've been successfully on the 6" wheels for the last 18 years.
