Rear end Help

So I am getting into my rear end and could use some advice. It is an 8 inch rear end I believe. Car is a 68 mustang that came with a 289 in it. I bought axle bearings to replace them but after looking at a diagram I saw their are more inside the 3rd member. I'm thinking I might just need to rebuild the whole rear end to be safe. That brings me into my questions. Where do I go to get gearing and a Limited slip set up? What brands should I trust etc. I am going to be using the car to cruise it around and also to take it to the track whether its drag racing or autocross/road course. I know that going a full locking differential isn't that great for street driving so I am thinking a limited slip set up would be the next step. Then I need to decide on new gearing as well. Right now it has the factory 2.88's in it. Let me know your thoughts.

Thank you,
