shifter boot

I seem to be having a problem getting the shift boot on the shifter do to the reverse lockout lever. Any tricks to this without tearing the boot. Thanx

Soaking it will only help a little. Here's a best method that worked for me:

Slip the boot onto the shifter and over one side of the t-handle
Insert a screwdriver, long enough to grip with both hands, into the center boot hole
Grip the screwdriver with one hand above and one below the boot
Using the screwdriver, slowly and gradually stretch and release the boot until it will fit over the t-handle. Just like gradually stretching a rubber band.

I hope this helps.
