Sig's 68 Fastback

This guy is on the move!!!

ETA for the finished product is the week of March 8th. Paint will be done by the 7th, may have a hold up if the vent windows aren't back from the chrome shop or the new glass isn't installed in the door windows.

All the parts were initially stripped to bare metal, even the new ones like this Ford tooling hood.

Yeah, no kidding. Now imagine you were me sitting here when they came in on email!!!

BTW, just about every trade craft I witness I walk away thinking "I could do that." And I have. Changing a timing belt, plumbing, welding, roofing, tile work, carpentry, rebuilding a 9" rear, etc, etc.

This guy, on the other hand, has removed any possible doubts I have about doing my own paint work. And by that I mean, this guy is so good, that I know that I cannot replicate his work. I would be grossly unsatisfied. He clearly knows Mustangs and is extremely meticulous in the quality of his work. There is a 69 Boss 302 in line after mine comes out and the owner is repeat customer, actually the same guy who's 67 fastback convinced me to go with this painter. I'm absolutely in for another one with him when the time comes.

I know guys here who have great paint jobs that they did themselves, but as a man I know my own limitations and this guy is entirely worth the expense.

What I'm about to say may be sacrilege, but I'm not drilling the fenders or quarters or using the original type pins for mounting.

GT fender badges and quarter reflectors will have the pins ground off on the back and then stuck on with 3M trim tape.

Your painter is making great progress. It's amazing just how fast things start coming together at the end of the paint & body work. Seems like prep take FOREVER, but when color starts going down, things really speed up!

This is better than any Christmas, huh?!

Congrats. Looking forward to seeing it all back together.

Absolutely speachless. That is some really great work. I love the color by the way, perfecto.
How long did dis-assembly take?

The car was disassembled summer 2005, in one weekend. All that blast work was done spring 2008. Suspension and drivetrain done by Aug 2008. Car has been at painters since Aug 2008.

Paint is done!!

Now to start putting it together!!!

All painted parts will be assembled before I go pick it up. ETA at home is sometime in the next week.

In the words of todays teenagers OMG that looks totally awesome. I have been seeing the pics at the top of my screen in the Recent Media Images and just had to take a look. The color looks so rich I can almost smell it. fd

Great looking project.

So the highland green club may have a shot at taking over the GO guys?

My car is a factory Dark Moss Green. I am thinking of painting it Night Mist Blue though. There are so many dark green 67/68 fastbacks. I do really like the Highland Green color though.

I'm supposed to take the car in for paint at the end of the month and I am still having trouble making a final decision. :doh

I've wanted this color on a Mustang for almost 20 years and finally got it.

There may be a lot of metallic green mustangs, but I doubt its the new "candyapple red."

I really like how you can still see the countour of the body line in the roof down through the deck lid. I've seen a lot of show cars with that sanded off or bondo'd over.

For those who are curious, I won't publically say amount, but suffice it to say I was billed for 328 hours of labor, plus I bought all the parts and paint as direct as I could and had them shipped to the shop. Labor included new rear frame rails, full trunk floor, transition pan, wheelhouses, full quarters, taillight panel, and of course the rest of the car as far as body and paint. You can calculate the price based on labor rates in your area if you want something similar. Fortunately I did all the work on the floors and front of the car myself as I saved a lot of labor hours doing that before the shop got the car.

Now to start finishing up the assembly.

That is purdy! :$$$ I love nice paint. Cover and tape off edges when doing assembly. Every time I am lazy and do not do it, I create a chip. Keep up the great progress.
