Tire size....

The 64.5 car I'm working on has brand new BFG G-Force 225/60/15's on all 4 corners. The wheels are Vintage 45's with I'm guessing 4.5" of BS (NICE Wheels BTW!). The rears fit with no problems. The fronts however look like they're going to be a problem. The front suspension is just "tacked" on so the alignment is WAY off (it had about 3 inches of toe-in on it while I was trying to push it off the trailer and into the garage..... screw that.... I got it a lot closer by eyeballing the tie rod adjuster sleeves), but it looks to me like after the alignment the tires are still going to be too large.

Does anyone remember the largest size tire recommended for the first generation cars? Wasn't it 215/60/15?

That is the same size tires I have on my car with AR TT2 wheels 4.5" BS. Yes you will get some rubbing on the front. My right front tire rubbed slightly when turned all the way to the right stop. The left side did not rub for some unknown reason. After the Unisteer R&P was installed the front tires no longer rubbed on either side. Obviously, I lost a little turning radius, but not so much that it is a problem. The back tires will rub when the body gets twisted. It depends on which way the car is twisted as to which tire will rub. I took a BFH to the lower forward part of the outside wheel well and got a little more clearance, but it will still rub slightly if the car is twisted. 215's would probably be a better fit for 64.5/66 bodies.

See, that's what I was thinking. I'll have a much better idea in a few weeks after the alignment is done, but right this minute it don't look good for the fronts.

Dave,

I've used:

235/60/15 BFG T/A's on a 15x7 with 3.75" BS
225/50/15 on a 15x7 with 3.75" BS
225/50/15 on a 15x8 with 4.5" BS
235/45/17 with 4.75" BS - current street tires
225/45/17 with 4.5" BS - current slicks

All fit with the front of my 66 with fender lips rolled. I think you'll be ok if the lips are rolled, close if they are not.

To close this thread out, no, the 225 series tires were interfering with the unrolled front fender lips. I dropped the tire size down to a 215 and everything fits fine with no interference.

see tech section MM :1965 Mustang Fastback - Wheels And Tires Make The Car :bow

may i do that :conf

I previous mentioned in this topic an article in MM and i believe there was a typo failier.
They mentioned first that 64-66 mustang that uses 15 X 7 rims have 3 7/8 b.s. thats correct.
But they also mentioned first the tires were 225/50/15 but later on in the article they wrote 225/60/15 !!
I do think its 225/60/15.
Now my question: do excist 225/60/15 with with stripe on the sidewall ???
