What should I pay?

I took my 289 to a local engine builder I couldn't stand to give it away to build a 351,anyway I got a pretty good deal on working it over for 450$ and told the builder I was going to build a 347 out of it in my garage & he was the first person other than me to work on the car, he told me he had been sitting on a 347 kit he didn't need 4340 scat forged lw crank and Oliver 3.400 rods he didn't get to me on a price, so just curious what would you pay? I know those rods are at least 1300 new & maybe 500 for that crank new-I don't want to insult my machinist??
