White on black CA license plates

KBMWRS asked me last Saturday about white on black CA license plates that he had seen on the road. I didn't know anything about them and we assumed that they were custom made and therefore illegal. Well, I saw one today and it prompted me to look into it. There is no such thing available from the CA DMV, but there are some other options I found, most illegal but one perfectly legal.
Illegal option: https://www.amazon.com/California-License-Number-Embossed-Custom/dp/B07D36BDNR?th=1
legal option: https://reviver.com/rplate/

Can you say "Big Brother is watching you"?

From the company's web site Terms of Service:

"e. Telematics Services, which may include Services such as real-time Vehicle location, logging trips on Vehicles, recording of start and end times for trips."

No Thanks.

And no, I am NOT wearing a tin foil hat.

And the old man in me says.....all I need are two bolts and nuts to attach my plates to the car.
But it does look cool. But with technology comes other risks. The ability to check your location/speed at any time. This of course can also be done by using the tracking device we all carry anyway though. And if it is computer based/digital it is HACKABLE.
But it is the future........

Jeff you do realize all that is already done with that device you carry in your pocket already. The car you drive has a recording device that you as its owner do not have the ability to remove. Big Brother is already here....we all just accept it for convenience sake.

I have white on black plates - Alabama not Cali though. Granted, they were manufactured 56 years ago but they are totally legal and cannot be tracked in real-time by the gubermint. :p
