Wiring diagram

I am pretty clueless when it comes to electrical. I want to relocate my battery to my trunk. Do you guys have a specific website that has diagrams? Or is google the best bet?

that should help.

Relocating the battery into the trunk is not that difficult but you have to consider some things , like thickness of the positiv lead .

I would go this way : B+ from Alternator to B+ from starter to ( through firewall ) to + junction point under dash and from there to battery in the trunk.

The - pole lead should be thick enough and well mounted to the chassis / frame.

  • I followed Mad Electrics diagram:
    http://madelectrical.com/catalog/tm-1.shtml

    And pieced it together myself. Ordered 1/0 welding cable in red for hot lead to front and black for ground. I relocated the solenoid to the trunk also so the 1/0 hot cable would only be hot during starting and put a circuit breaker on the 8 gauge going to my alt. and used a relay just higher than my alt. output (100A). Here is my thread if it helps:

    There are a few factors that make each persons wiring a little different;
    - stock starter or high torque mini starter with solenoid on top, extra wire needed from ign. to engage/disengage solenoid separately from 1/0 hot lead or you may get run on/sticking bendix;

    - stock dist. with points (2nd wire from from solenoid needed ('I' post I think), if electronic conversion or aftermarket electronic dist. installed not needed.

    - Stock solenoid used, on fender or in trunk?

    - Does constant hot 1/0 main wire concern you? Some don't mind this and wire differently. I've had a '70 totaled in a T bone and the rocker was crushed which may have pinched the 1/0 hot and grounded it > short> fire. So I ran the extra wire so it would only be hot when cranking.
