Zombie 222 - all Electirc Super Muscle Mustang

I thought I would post a build thread about a new Mustang build that is pretty unique and possibly the most powerful vintage street Mustang on the road. All electric. The plan to produce a limited number for high end collectors and the model designator is Zombie 222. Zombie because one of the partners is John Wayland owner of the White Zombie which is currently the quickest electric street car in the world. 0-60 in 1.8 seconds. A 1972 Datsun 1200 no less.

We modeled the power train after the approach John pioneered on the White Zombie. The 222 stands for 2 monster motors, 2 monster controllers and 2 damn fast.
Here we go...

Out team started with a super clean 1968 Fastback out of Houston. No rust. At all. Never wrecked.

Next we fabricated a motor mounting system for the engine bay. The design we came up provided 4 mount points and also help strengthen the front end to handle the insane HP and torque we were going to hit it with...unique mounting system for strengthening everything.jpg

Fits perfect so we pull it back out and attach a gear vendors for give us an overdrive since the electric car is a 1 to 1 drive without a transmission and we wanted more top end.

Now we design a mount for the 2 controllers that will position them in a fashion similar to the valve covers of a big block. This is a nod of respect to the muscle car motors. We were also able to use the originalidea for placing controllers.jpg throttle using the orginal linkage.jpg all hooked up.jpg comtrollers mounted.jpg gas throttle linkage to operate the POTs for driving the controllers. ....

Now comes the rear end upgrade to handle the power. Did I mention the power numbers yet? I warn you they are staggering.

750-1000hp depending on battery pack
1800 lb.ft. or torque always
Pretty sure the factory rear end wouldn't come close to handling that....

We selected a 3 link, floating rear with watts link from Street or Track and a HD aluminum Strange Ford 9"
Also, Wilwood 13" brakes with E-brake. new rear housing.jpgnew rear housing being installed.jpg new strange ford 9inch center section rated for high HP.jpgnew e-brakes installed.jpgnew 13 inch brakes.jpg completed rear end.jpg

To test out the system, we got to borrow the battery pack from Big Daddy Don Garlit's new electric rail, Swamp Rat 37. In his 80's he is trying to set a world record for electric rail in the 1/4 mile. He's getting close.
The pack contains 1.5 megawatts. A little more than we need, but hey beggars can't be choosers.

Here is 1/2 of the pack and then the pack installed in the trunk.

Now, we need to give it the trademark Zombie 222 paint scheme. Shock green accept stripes. Will it match the marketing mock ups?
painting actually matches concept plan.jpg starting Zombie 222 painting.jpg painting whole car.jpg

Wait until you guys hear the price tag...and where the batteries came from. (Yeah, I've read about this one already)

Running at San Antonio Raceway for the first time.... Front wheel came up clean off the ground....

First race against a totally built TransAM. Dude was laughing at us before the race. Crying later... Beat by Battery....

Same race against the TransAM from a GoPro on top of the Zombie 222

Here is a race against a 2011 GT500 with the GoPro on the side of the GT500.

Current Stats using 1/2 of the big daddy pack. 3/4 of a Megawatt
1/4 mile is 12.1
0 to 60 is currently at 3.5 seconds

Target stats with new battery pack in production 1.2 Megawatt
1/4 mile high 10s
o-60 under 3.0 seconds

Battery pack should be delivered in 3 weeks and then back to the track to set new records.
