What did you get done on your Stang today????

I will. I have 2 AN fittings to pick up today and the job will be done. I still need to change my gas cap to a non-vented one or weld up the vent hole in the cap. I will likely do the latter since it is free and I am tired of spending money. :)

Since I am reaching the 10k mileage mark, yesterday I retired my Tefba coolant filter. I will keep it and the modified hoses in case I ever do anything to the radiator, heads, etc that might have an impact on the cleanliness of the coolant.

I am tired of smelling gas in my garage so I put one of these tank/differential filters on my car yesterday. I hope it keeps the Mrs. happy. It was my Father's Day present. :thum I learned about it over on Pro-touring.com.

You need to post pics of your install. My wife says the same thing about the gas smell.

My wife also complains about gas smell, but not from the car :yah

Got my block plate in place & the flexplate bolted to the crank before work. Not much progress, but at least I got something done on the 4r70w swap today.

Got my auto shifter test-fitted today. Looks like the shifter from a 98 Mustang will work out great.

Ordered one of these UPR shifter handles from CJPP to replace the stock ergonomic plastic dealio:

Neither the stock 69 shifter bezel nor the 98 Mustang bezel will work with my stock console though, so I'll have to use a shifter boot. Which I actually don't mind.

$70 on ebay. Best thing to have in place before a new startup.

Well, that ship has sailed, as far as startup. Got about 2500-3000 miles on it so far, wonder if it would be worth bothering with at this point?

I would say probably not unless you will be working on the heads, radiator, water pump or thermostat. I will say that I reused the coolant that I took out but before pouring it back in, I ran the juice through a paint strainer, just in case. Very little if any chunks were left behind.

Today I got the shifter mounted in the Mustang. Also cut 4 tabs off the transmission case for clearance & did a trial fit, and it seemingly clears everything like it WANTS to go into the car. Should be able to install the torque converter & get the tranny bolted up tomorrow. Then I can see if I need a new driveshaft, start on the wiring & install the cooler & lines.

Got lucky and scored a great deal on a brand new hood for the car. It's a Fiberglass Specialties, metal frame backed with 67 Shelby scoop. This is the hood I had always planned on eventually using. I even had Chris render it in the drawing he did for me. Coming together...

Note to self: Add reopening the paint and body shop to the to-do list. Not more sanding! :rr

Saturday, Washed and detailed both coupes. Spent 2 hours just on the dark blue one's engine compartment. Suppose to go to a show on Sunday afternoon but it rained all day.

Drove one to work today in the rain. It seems a good wash does not last long. :dun

Mustang transmission swap update for the day:

Got the last 2 bellhousing bolts in (the hard-to-reach ones at the top of trans by the firewall). Have to take one of the easier-to-get-to ones on the side back out to mount the dipstick tube bracket (doh!).

Got the starter put back on. Mounted up OK, hopefully it will work with the new flexplate. Cross your toes. Guess I'll find out when I go to start it for the first time!

Got the new yoke installed on the driveshaft, and got the driveshaft bolted in. Saved ~$200 by not having to buy a new DS. :)

Removed the pinion shims I had installed when trying to get the stick shift driveline angle sorted out. Back to stock now.

Tomorrow we'll start the wiring & mount the tranny cooler and plumb some lines.

Mustang transmission swap update 6-24-14:

Didn't get as much done today as I would have liked.

Got the shifter cable routed & installed.

Got the Lokar dipstick tube installed.

Started removing the hydraulic clutch master & slave cylinders and reservoir but didn't get that finished. Some hard-to-get-to bolts there on that one.

Missed out on my goal of starting the wiring & cooling lines. :rant

Another sub-par day for working on the car. Third Monday this week, by my count... but I'm still slogging through.

Got started on the wiring & cooler lines today. Progress was hampered due to having to obtain some fittings/tools. Things should go faster now that they are on hand. They'd better, because the deadline is looming!

2 more days to:
mount the cooler & finish running the lines
finish the wiring & calibrate the shift controller and make sure everything is actually working right
put the seats & console back in
and vacuum, wash & wax/polish the car up for the James Dean spring run on Saturday
