Mustang-only car show last weekend

Local mustang club (Frederick MD) sponsored their first show here last weekend. Mustangs only. It was awesome to be part of a car show for Mustangs that featured something like 160+ cars, I took some pics but they are not great. I would guess 90% were newer cars, but several old rides like mine. I must be out of touch, I had no idea there were so many variations, special editions, etc. in these recent years. guy parked behind me had a triple black 2006 GT convertible that I fell in love with.

best of show went to the only Eleanor that was there. I personally love the Eleanors, but I don't get it... someone writes a check for a car that is 100% done, and then takes best in show with it... hey look what I bought... different strokes for different folks I guess.

all in all was great to see all the ponys corralled in one place. I hope this becomes an annual event.

I have more pics but not sure where to host them nowadays.

That looks like a decent turnout of vintage cars for such an event. Almost always what seems a 15:1 ratio of off the lot new ones vs older everywhere I've been. You'll have to get past holding a grudge against guys who simply buy a finished car or pay others to build one for them. I think I can count on one hand the number of nice cars I have seen at shows or such where the owner/driver actually built their own car bumper to bumper. The lots are full of cookie cutter new rides fresh of the lot with at most the owners adding some LED rope lights under the hood or ridiculous airbrushed "art" on the sheet metal. Of course, all the aforementioned feature some ugly ass massive new wheels and tires too.

 Grumpy old car guy rant over now

Looks like a nice turnout, might have thought about going but didn't know about it.

sorry about that... I thought I posted something here on it, but I must not have hit save or whatever. I really didn't think anyone on here was in this area. I joined facebook just so I could follow Mustang club of MD, Frederick Mustang Club and a couple other car clubs. Seems like most are using facebook nowadays for all their communications.

And that's why I probably miss a lot of info about shows. Sorry I just can't bring myself to join or participate in Faceoff, ahh I mean Facebook. I live in So. MD area.

I resisted facebook for a lot of years, finally started using to follow car related stuff. I refuse to get drug into all the political crap and drama, so far it's working. have to admit it is kinda of nice to be able to interact with my family/relatives in distant places, and I found a tools section in the marketplace that I look at a good bit.

2nd annual all mustang car show last weekend. not cancelled due to covid... great turnout, larger venue, great day. lots of newer cars, fair representation of older cars once again. cloudy and occasional sprinkles but never full blown rain. I didn't take pics this time but lots on facebook under Frederick Mustangs. I was honored to get 1st place in gen 1 category. best of show went to a 69 mach 1 that was absolutely gorgeous and looked better than the day it rolled off the line.

I was in a car show a few years ago (not Mustangs) where the guy won in my class. He had a perfect car. He should have. He bought it across the street the night before....new.
I told the club running it how I felt and never went back.

I dont get the "You must build it or its not real".
Not everyone has the skills or the time.
I just did a 55km design of an 96 core SMOF ADSS cable, strung under a 132kV Transmission line through the mountains here, with some spans 650 metres long.
Just another daily job for me, but i still believe automatic transmissions are the work of the devil.
I havent even started Frankenstang for nearly a year, due to work commitments, so should i be banned from owning it?

You don't have to build your car to enjoy it or have it enjoyed by others. At the same time simply plunking down some cash or signing on a note to buy the latest factory hot rod doesn't exactly make you an equal "car guy" either. It's frustrating to see some new Challenger get a top award when the only thing done to it post factory is the owner paying some detail guy to shine it up after you might have spent years and hundreds of hours restoring a 50 year old classic to lose out. This is why most owners of older classics try to avoid car shows open to stuff post 80's or even 90's. To each their own but not fair to treat as equal in such cases.

Personally I prefer to compete in shows that are participant and occasionally public vote. Yes you can get side-swiped by a big car club group or local favorite but most times car guys will tip their hat and cast a vote to a well done ride. Being honored with an award that way makes it more gratifying. I can tell you honestly that I always give my votes to cars built by their owners first over those hired out. The quality in areas might not always be first rate but the care and effort certainly isn't second class. Some might not agree and that's ok but I think a guy who does his own work is a notch up.

As far as not being able to do some of the work...I disagree. There is nothing involved in restoring or building a car that an average guy can't do. And do for less money. It just takes a willingness to try and learn. To maybe fail and try again. There were a few firsts for me in my mustang. First car I ever did full on bodywork and paint. First rebuild of a manual trans. First headliner. Now I'm doing more firsts on the F1. Full custom chassis and suspension. First flathead engine I ever SAW let alone built. I learn as I go. Anyone willing to make a mistake can do the same, if you ask me.

I don't enter for any award. I enter because I enjoy the show and it gives me a place to park.

Someday the 67 will be back on the road and I'll enter the classic sections.

Anymore I enjoy the cars and coffee type things. Good times.

I'm pretty much done on the show thing myself at least in terms of looking to have the car judged. Now its a good way to spend some time talking cars with other car guys and, if lucky, see a new car or three. Around here there are not that many Cars-n-Coffee type things to just hang out. Wish there were. There are a fair amount of Cruise Nights again but those get rather large and can get over populated with stuff that doesn't interest me. Grumpy old man syndrome likely

I like the cruise in events here. Not that much here either. Vegas is only two hours and the Shelby thing is happening every Saturday.

This is my exact situation. My 70 is 99.9% complete. What's left is tuning, which I suck at. I just don't have the time or ambition to go out and do it. I've been working so long on this car that I now dislike it. My 90 is just so much more enjoyable.

I'm finding someone to do the tuning on the 70, then it's getting sold. At least with the 90, I can fire it up for a quick trip to the grocery store. The 70 will never be that car.

Sorry to hear you have fallen out of love with the 70. It happens, I guess. More surprised you feel it can't be a reliable car for you. There are plenty of cars that age and older that still serve as daily drivers to this day. Plenty of older guys would even try to convince you they are more reliable than that modern electronic shit made today. :D

FWIW, I hop in mine as much as possible be it for a quick trip to the store to pick up milk or a three hour drive to visit family. I've long moved past the point I really even think about its reliability. This even after an abrupt alternator death some weeks ago.
