It felt like a war zone here. Fireworks all over the neighborhood. And some huge explosions. My dog was on edge all night. And then the sirens started. In case others don't know California is a big tinder box. Towns have burnt down in the past. People killed. And now others set off fireworks for fun....fire trucks headed up the large hill behind our neighborhood all night.
I was waiting for the glow to start on the horizon. This morning past the hill that we can see is a horizon covering cloud of smoke. Bombers and helicopters in the distance. How many homes have been destroyed?

Yeah July 4th is fun. For idiots to burn things.

Cloud was getting closer then a black cloud started closer still. This was new fire. Its still about 5 miles east of us but the bombers were now finishing their runs by coming over the house.

Air support now seems done. Light cloud dissipating.

I'm sure firefighters worked through the night until the air support arrived.
Thank you fire personnel!

That sound scary to me !! I have seen a house burning through the roof. It made a horrible sound and it wasn't even my house !
I bet you did not sleep !

This would be our rescue German Shepherd and cat hiding in the kitchen from the fireworks. Wife gave the GS meds to calm her down, but still terrified. The puppy does not know enough to be scarred and the male Shepherd just barks at the booms. Other cats are hiding somewhere in the house. Yep like a war zone here.
So would it be a stupid idea to make fireworks legal so the idiots could buy the fountains and ground flowers and not go to Arizona and buy artillery rounds.

The fire here was miles away but basically miles of dried grasses. I just had the Paradise fire in my mind and I was concerned.

I live off of the main street that the road racers use here in town. Normally they only run on Fridays and Saturdays, but due to the pandemic and no one having any idea what day it is anymore, sometimes they kind of just run whatever day. As soon as the firework stands started opening up, they started using the fireworks every night to start their races. And of course I live in Texas so non-racer random people have been asserting their various freedoms and of course they also have no idea what day it is, so that adds as well.

So basically what I'm saying is that it's been the fourth of July here for like two weeks running now :p I'm sure this is terrible for everyone with PTSD / frightened animals. For me, it's just more random noises outside that I'm not about to go investigate.

I did make some hamburgers though.

Local news reports that there were about 70 fire calls with a large percentage being illegal fireworks related. That and a bunch of random shootings and a couple of related shooting deaths. Idiocy seems to be on the rise.
