2021 Mach 1

As some of you may recall, over the last couple of years Diane has been lusting for a new Mach 1 to serve as a bookend to her '69 Mach 1. Well, this past weekend the local Ford dealer had one in stock and we took it for a spin. Very impressive package with the Active Exhaust feature really putting the frosting on the cake. Using the "build your own" feature on the Ford website, we studied the features and options and checked some boxes. At the end, we placed the order and are waiting for confirmation from the DSO that the order has been accepted. Now it's time to reassess garage space for the expanding fleet. I think I need to buy a winning lottery ticket this week to cover the expanding garage deficiency.

Very cool.

I have trying to talk my wife into a new car for years. She has no interest.

Where did I go wrong.

I like it!

The new (2016+) Mustangs are really quite impressive. Only thing I don't like about them is how big they feel. But they sure are quick and relatively nimble.

My son bought a 2020 PP2. I have driven it a few times. It does feel big but as you pointed out it is quite nimble. What is even more impressive to me is how it is a track car with licence plates! 9-21-20(6).jpg

My GT350 doesn't feel any bigger than my 67. The amount of rubber on the ground at 325 is way different though.

There has been a slight change in plans. Apparently the initial dealership and the other local dealers have a limited allocation of Mach 1's and "Race Red" is not on anyone's list. Compounding that is the decision at corporate to exclude the Mach 1 from the "Z" plan and a local "market adjustment" of up to $10,000 (grab your ankles) was discouraging to say the least. Fortunately a different local dealer with no market adjustment had an already built Velocity Blue Mach 1 in transit that was not spoken for. It is on a train currently passing through New Mexico and is supposed to be here between March 15th and March 21st. A quick trip down the road this morning and a conversation with the sales manager and we locked it up. Hopefully it won't fall off the truck when it arrives!! Velocity Blue is similar in tone to the vintage color Acapulco Blue. For those visual learners, here's an image of a Mach 1 in Velocity Blue:Mach 1 Velocity Blue 2MP.jpg

Sorry to hear she can't get a red one to match her classic Mach. Dealers do get a bit greedy when new, popular models come out. Look at what my local Ford dealer wants for a new GT500!!!

Why would you even consider spending that kind of money on a car to settle for anything less than you/she wants? A quick look on Cars.com showed a number of red Mach 1 available across the country. You can also look on other sources or all around and find more, I'm sure. You can grab a Southwest flight for likely less than $150 to any one of them, get the dealer to pick you up at the airport and then enjoy a nice drive home with the car she really wants. You'll be practically burning $10k the second you take possession so you might as well get it in the color you want to ease that pain!

Yep he nailed it. Look elsewhere and get the car she wants.
I wish Ford would back up these special versions with build support instead of just making a few and letting the dealers gouge customers.

I fully agree! I would never pay any dealer mark-up and blame it on the manufacturers for their failure to supply enough of these cars. I remember when the Viper first came out, Dodge dealers were price gouging big time!

I built a new Mach 1 recently for fun and I chose Velocity Blue since my '70 Mach is going to be its original Medium Bright Blue Metallic in less than a month. I agree with Terry though . . . Ive bought vehicles several states away to get the one I wanted and had it shipped via private carrier. WELL worth it !! Enjoy your new Mach !!

She called all over including the Northwest, Southwest, and Midwest and the combination of Race Red with no added price gauging was not out there. The 5 Race Red Mach 1's on line in the midwest were all manual transmissions and she wants the 10 speed automatic. Seems Fighter Jet Gray and Black are the common colors at this time for dealer ordered cars and many dealers have already used their allocations, so ordering bespoke really is not a viable option at this time. Seeing a new Velocity Blue Mustang GT on the dealer's lot won her over to the Blue for her Mach 1. Remember that she is eligible for Z plan pricing and has taken advantage of it several times. The fact that Ford has chosen to exclude the Mach 1 from that program was a bitter pill. Paying additional dealer profit, plus the cost of shipping the car privately made the locally available Velocity Blue Mach 1 that much more of a friendly choice. We do have the Monroney sticker for this car so we know it is real!!
