17x7's and rolling fenders?

I've now determined I want 17s on Gertrude and the wheels I want are these..
http://www.americanracingwheelsinfo.com ... ust_II.htm

I was thinking this combo -
Front: 17x7 0mm Offset 4" BS
Rear: 17x9.5 +28mm Offset 6 3/8" BS

Would that work without having to roll front fenders? My rear fenders I don't need to worry about. PO already cut them off. Not rolled. Took a sawzall and cut them off.

I tried on a 17x8 in the front but it hit the fender, and that is with the wheel barely turned inward.

This rear wheel is a 17x9. Maybe I could go up to a 9.5" without them sticking out of the fender? Or maybe add some fender flares to the rear to give Gertrude a wider looking butt? lol

I was looking at the wheel/tire chart - http://www.dodgestang.com/Tire%20Fitmen ... 2065-6.pdf

I'm not sure if I'm reading it right but those running 17x8 have fenders rolled but those with 17x7 with 4" to 4.50" BS don't have them rolled. I really don't want to have to deal with rolling front fenders. :hide

I don't know. Everyone says wheels & tires can make or break a car's look so I want the best fitting ones I can put on Gertrude. I might even get lucky (according to my husband) who said instead of typical flowers and stuff for Valentines Day or our anniversary in March, he might get me bling (aka wheels) for Gertrude with the income tax return. :thu

You won't come close to getting 9.5" to fit in the rear even if you rolled the lips. 8" is what most run and that usually includes rolled lips and a little hammer work down low in the rear as well.

I have a 9" on the rear right now. Is there that much of a difference with 1/2" more? :shrug If I can't go 9.5" I guess I can stick with 9".

But what about the fronts? 17x7 fit and not have to have fender rolled?

That 9" is not fitting. Your quarter lip is up over the tire by a couple inches. Fitting means it fits inside of the lip opening. You'll get all kinds of rub and tire cutting driving around like that. Unless you plan to jack it up 70's style.
Depending on offset/BS and tire choice you can do a 7" up front without rolling.

Why does your rear tire have negative camber?

well there's only 2 lug nuts holding it on? Or maybe because the other rear wheel/tire is completely different so the whole car is sitting funny? Might just be the angle I took the picture? If you look at the house across the street, the picture isn't exactly straight on. :shrug

If I stand over and look directly down to the floor (rear), the wheel/tire doesn't stick out past the fender lip. Is that what you mean?

Look at all the examples on Nick's (Dodgestang) fitment chart. Everyone maxes out at 8" rear except for one car which uses wheel flares. To go bigger you either have the wheels stick out :puk or you do what I am doing and mini-tub it. Before you ask, that is cut out the stock inner wheel wells and shift them inward widening the space for the tire. In my case, I am even notching/altering the rear frame rails to gain the added space I want.

Maybe this will help:

This rubbed ALOT on turns with 5 leafs. After I added a 3 link and a watts link....it only rubbed on turns over 30 MPH....(this is my 275 40 17 drag strip wheels on an 8 inch rim)

This doesn't rub at all And is a 245 40 (a little smaller than a stock OD)

This doesn't rub if you have the rear lips rolled (or removed) as in your case...at least it didn't on my car with lips rolled and my 5 leafs.

As for the front.....17x8 can work on the front without rolling the lips. I have 245 40 17 and 234 45 17 on the front on an 8 inch wheel with 4.75 backspacing without rolling the lips. On the front you can cheat with the shelby drop and then additional camber to get a wider tire.

I would start this way....you know you want 17s....ok....what size tires do you want to run in the front and back? That will guide your best choice for wheel width.

If it helps.. I did the shelby drop. I also have the 620# 1" drop springs.

As for tires :shrug I have no clue. I don't want big fat tires. Something low profile maybe? :shrug

If it helps, these are 225/50 17's up front and 275 40 17's rear. 8 inch rin up front, 9.5 rear

I've got 7 inch 245/45/17 in the front, 8 inch 275/40/17 in the rear, and had to do a major roll of the fender this weekend.

Iam running the shelby drop in the front with 1 inch lower springs, and 4 inch leaf in the back.

I think it would be perfect with 5 leaf springs in the back.

Kat,

Don't over think this as with 65/66 your options are limited unless you make major modifications. Go by the chart and what has worked for others. 245 on an 8" seems to be the max in the rear and slightly narrower up front (235 or 225) on a 7". Nick and his chart can help you with the correct back spacing.

I am running 17" 8's on front & back. Tires are 245's in the rear & 215's up front. The next set of tires i purchase will be a little larger up front. Probably a 225. On the rear the 245 is all I can run without flaring or mini tubing. I didn't roll the fenders ,but during bodywork we trimmed the rear fender lips slightly. If i had it to do over I would have mini tubbed the car and stuffed the fenders with some rubber.I still might when I go with the four link. Good Luck.
