Hi - my '98 F-150 has a problem someone here may be able to help with. Cruising along and it goes crazy - drops to 1500 rpm, falls on its face, and I get a Check Engine light. Code is P1747 - EPC solenoid short circuit. When I cruise the Web, this problem is across the board - Mustang, Contour, F-150, Expedition, you name it. I have replaced the EPC solenoid, internal trans harness, transition plug, and cleaned all of the plugs. Still got the problem - which is intermitent. Typically occurs under acceleration - 1-2 and 3-4 upshifts. This is not a transmission problem, but electrical between the PCU and transmission. When this happens, the PCU retard fuel and spark to protect the transmission according to Ford. This is why the engine falls on its face.
Has anyone run into this with your Mustang, truck, or sport ute? And - did you find the fix? Looking for Ford techs who have dealt with this problem. I've heard it is the PCU. I've also heard it is wires chaffing at the back of the right cylinder head.
Thanks!
