2002 F-250 Emissions Control Warning Light?

Help, my boyfriend, who lives in Mexico, has a 2002 F-250 Superduty (with no mods) and the "Emissions Control" light has come on. It's not the "Check Engine" light. Does anyone know what might be causing this and whether it's safe for him to continue to drive the vehicle? His owner's manual says nothing about this light and he doesn't have a good place for service nearby.

I just logged on to thedieselstop.com to search for you but I see you've already been there.... I look tomorrow when I get to the shop and check AllData. I'm not aware of a Emission Control light. The check engine lights main duty is emissions. You're usually safe as long as the light isn't flashing and the engine is running as it normally does.

Thanks, I'll check back tomorrow. I'm running my club's annual show tomorrow and it's pretty hectic otherwise I'd be able to go do some research. Appreciate it!

+1

Out of curiousity, is it a diesel?

I'm not seeing anything on emission light. Finding the same as the diesel stop post. Its says emissions control or its the engine symbol? Does he have any type of tuner on the truck? On my 01 7.3, I have a tuner that reads codes also. Did it come on under normal driving or under heavy load?

I'll have to check my 2002 when I get home. I"m at our car show right now and I didn't trailer my coupe, so I don't have my truck here. I'm guessing he just went out yesterday morning and started it up. The truck isn't modded and wouldn't have been under a load.
