2004 Suburban 1500 oil sending unit?

KBMWRS

Where is it?

And How can I replace it?

Looking on the internet says that it is at the back of the engine, driver's side.....way in the back by the firewall.

I looked and felt all over and can't find it.

The reason?....my oil pressure gauge is at zero...(noticed while driving)..but it moves slightly when engine is turned on /off.

worried about using the Burb now.

Does yours have the plastic engine cover? You might have to remove it to see and get to it. It's WAY in the back.

Mike, Is it a 4.3, 4.8 or 5.3L motor? You need to know this first. Here's a couple pretty good threads with the first one explaining that you would need to remove the plastic intake manifold cover for access. As suggested in the first link's, I would first go out and buy the sending unit. It also "claims" that there is a special 1-1/16" deep socket with a groove that is needed.

The above link are based I believe on a 5.3 Litre motor, thus the more important for you to first confirm what you have unda de hoode.

Are we seeing a Super Bowl sending unit replacement party in the works?

Like others posted... You dont need the special socket, you can get it with a non impact deep socket, the impact sockets usually are too thick for the connector of the sensor too fit in.

Well after spending $190 it wasn't the sending unit.

Firts sending unit from O'Reillys $40....didn't fix the problem....gauge went up and then back to zero. :bomb

Bad sending unit? Don't trust aftermarket so I tried the OEM GM version...$90 :shrug

Go to install and promptly break off the plastic surround the connector prongs. :rant
Buy another GM sending unit...discount for idiot install $60....for a easy $10 part :rant

Gauge reads proper...for about a mile. Stop and start engine gauge reads high...low..zero

I took it to my trusted mechanic and he checked the gauge...its bad...
Now its in for a gauge cluster refurbish...tach was dead too so get it all fixed.

Burb only has 89k on it.....usual GM electronics = fail......the new LUCAS? :skul

Ahhhhh, the ole stepper motor failure. Well know GM issue. I have one here in the shop for a faulty cluster now.. We have a local place to send them off to for rebuilding. Usually under $200
