289 original fan blade

I believe this to an original 289 fan blade. I pulled it off the 289 that came out of my mustang. Looks to have aluminum fins.

Sounds like a flex fan, the original was a 4 blade metal fan. A couple pics would help.

Car wasn't on the road since the 80's so I didn't know if their was aftermarket fan blades floating around back then. So if anyone has an idea of specs on it please let me know.

You can do one thing to see if it's a factory or aftermarket fan blade, check it thoroughly for markings. I can see what looks like a marking stamped on the back of the center section in your first photo, but can't make it out. Normally there would be a number on a blade. I'd say it's NOT a '68 fan blade. Two reasons why; 1) the blades are aluminum, and 2) the slotted bolt holes. Flex fans were indeed used in '68, but on a/c equipped cars. They also had fixed diameter bolt holes (not slotted), and the blades were spring steel (not aluminum). The thing that makes it appear to be a later factory part is the asymmetrical spacing of the blades. I'm not saying none have ever been made that way, but all of the aftermarket flex fans I ever recall seeing had symmetrical blade spacing.

With that said, if you're not trying to do a concours restoration, the fan/blades aren't bent, and there's not stress cracks around the rivets, use it. It's a good cooling alternative to a fixed blade or clutch fan.
