Ok, so, I have a set of crappy fitting fiberglass side scoops like came on the GT350.
I've had them a hundred years and am finally going to put them on since I have the interior mostly out right now. Where along the "C" shape of the scoop should I drill? I was thinking two in the rear, two on the top, and two on the bottom, but as I was test fitting tonight, I can tell there's basically no way to get the back edge to attach. The fiberglass basically sits flat, where ideally it would jut out away from the scoop, fitting into the concave shape on the side of the car. It is also a very thin surface, with not a lot of material to go drilling.
If I do 3 across the top, and 3 across the bottom, and none across the rear, will that be sufficient to hold it in place?
I know the "traditional" way of attaching them is to use pop-rivets, but I think I'm going to drill them, and slide some small bolts coming out, and put a little two-part epoxy to hold them in place, so they basically act like studs. Then I'll drill matching (slightly enlarged, for adjustment) holes on the body, and slide the "studs" into the drilled holes, and put nuts and washers on the back side.
I dunno if I explained that where it's understandable, but I have very little experience with body work, so what problems am I setting myself up for with this approach? Poprivets aren't an acceptable option, because I need them to be fairly easily removed for when it's time to paint the car. That's a long way off, but I still want to get these fitted and ready to go.
Let me know if I'm being stupid here.
Thanks,
Steve
