'66 door handle issue

I can't seem to figure out what is the problem with my pass. side door handle. I replaced it with a Scott Drake model and when I depressed the button it does in but will not go back to the original position. The door then will not close.

Anybody have any experience with this? I bought another one to see if it was a defect but it did the same.

The repro guts of the door handle is awful compared to the original guts. If you can find an original door handle, transfer the guts over and all will be good.
